Good overview. My view is the same on how long term prices are used in cash flow projections. I believe there is more to the story though on short term price correlation. The discounting of future cash flows put more weight on the short term cash flow. For HUR the discounting is higher than typical. I've seen 12.5% or so from the public equity analysis report, but I suspect higher rates are used. This puts even more weight on volatile short term prices. And secondly, net cash flow is much more sensitive to oil price than revenue. A 10% oil price change will have a 10% change on revenue, but its impact on net cash flow is much greater and that is what counts. Sentiment and upside are harder to pin down.

Bocase, I didn't bother with this earlier when I showed the two charts side by side as over that period of time I could see that there wasn't a great correlation due to Lancaster FPSO newsflow...



However looking at the one year chart now that I have a bit more time the correlation is clear...



...but of most interest perhaps is that both charts start and end at the same place despite the intervening newsflow! It all depends on the period of time you take which could be adjusted to support or not support correlation although clearly there is some correlation longer term.
