With 888's 'bid' for WMH getting nowhere and the share price starting to fall rapidly, I wonder if the founding families would be tempted to take their money and run, should an opportunistic bid come along? The share price at 193p is now a long way from their hoped for 300p when WMH approached them.

Interesting to see that all the large size offers of stock that were just below 700p and just above have now gone and the first big amount of stock available is 17,411 at 706p. The 'resistance' at 700p appears to be disappearing. Another move up then?

Festario, I've lost plenty at this game I can assure you! About 15 year ago, I lost a sum not dissimilar to what you're talking about. Now I try not to take it so seriously - it's not worth the worry - and if you can't hack it, then don't watch the market day-in, day-out.

Woodhawk, I grow tired of you always saying you sold at the very top, and bought back at the very bottom.For the sake of a few pence, plus you have to pay dealing commission? What's the point?It's amazing how you always tell us these things AFTER the event. I would be more impressed if you regaled us with your genius in advance, so we can see the times you get it wrong, like us mere mortals often do.

I had to sell a couple of thou at 703, just for the thrill of it - but I just bought them back for a few pence less! I was missing them already!!

Good to see a 100k buy first thing at 695p, that's what set the ball rolling and the surge upwards. The profit takers will move in but the momentum is taking us upwards and as gilotron says the 250 is around the corner!

The jam has gone but the so has the price. Back down to 695p again from 699p.

700p will only be reached when this line of stock being offered at 695p on SETS is taken up. It started last week at over 60k and is now down to 42k, so we need a few big buyers to clear that and then maybe we will move up from the mid 690's.

The market doesn't think the Rank/888 'offer' is going anywhere with WNH down 6p at 327p.

Agree Coxsmn. 888 asked Hills for 300p + when they were trading at 160p!

The problem is that one of the founding families still own 42% and they are known to be difficult to deal with, greedy sellers and cheap buyers, which is OK up to a point but it is going to cost them. They never bought a sportsbook when they should have and this current deal makes no sense in that neither they or Rank have the management experience to run a major sportsbook. Plus they are not offering anything like the usual premium. I think it was Cenkos who estimated that it will take 400p plus and the latest (already rejected ) bid is 353p.

Are we going to challenge the 700p barrier this week.

Strange bid tactics by Rank/888. Did they really think an increase of £183 million would swing the WMH board to back the bid?

Looks like they need Kenny to advise them how to go about completing a successful bid.

They now need to put up or shut up by next week.
