It's not that easy ,I don't have a living relative left ,it was a case of an only child from an only child and so on and so on,I have a 23 share portfolio worth seven figures ,how I wish I was forty years younger,I have had an extremely lucky life netting seven legacies, which helped build up this fortune,I have loads of friends who will do very well,so as you see my bird in the hand is as useless as the share going up to a pound, just be happy, and spend spend spend,

Hi Alan.thanks for the warning. Luckily I am a qualified accountant so will use all tax avoidance strategies available to minimise costs and duties. It is more than sad enough losing a loved one without the scale of costs you also incurred. The tax system always seems to penalise those who have worked hard - I have always firmly believed it grossly unfair when elderly or medical care costs are held chargeable against ones assets - especially against ones family home when a couple have worked hard, paid taxes and mortgages all their working lives.

Thank you millwallfan ,what I am trying to say is,my wife had a massive stroke,I paid a six figure to the nursing home and a six figure sum in death duties ,don'take anything to chance enjoy it,if this happens to you or your family they will have the shirt off your back,be savvy and sort all your affairs out now,we didn't and it was a huge mistake, enjoy, enjoy,

Hi Alan. I agree entirely and am pleased you and your beloved wife took the opportunity to enjoy so much quality time together. I am very fortunate in terms of both financial security and, so far, health with both significant assets ( house, shares, bonds etc) combined with a large index linked occupational pension. I play golf 3 times a week and also all over the world when cruising and travelling. Whilst accepting I am blessed, I did work for 42 years, paid maximum PAYE tax and NI, and never had a day unemployment - so please nobody think I was born with a silver spoon in my mouth - my dad died when I was five - everything I have is self obtained, which just goes to show if I can do it anyone can.

This endless bicker about the lack of dividend is becoming tedious. There are many negatives about the company that stops Institutions investing. In no particular order:-
1 Registered in Bermuda operating in China.
2 lack of information. The shareholders, the owners of the company, get no information other than interims and finals.
3 Greed of BOD, as evidenced by the way options have been issued, cancelled(out of the money) reissued at much more favorable terms. Nickof’s short $2m contract, Goodwin’s inflated salary etc
4 The absurdity of some of the Chairman’s statements over the years. “Couldn’t be more pleased” etc
5 Share purchases. From memory, a few small buys around the 150p mark and nothing for months. Is that a strategy?
6 For Rose! One dividend paid over how many years.
7 Enormous price paid to increase the stake in the mine. I think the purchase was for a further 18% and the consideration paid more than the market capitalization of the group prior to the purchase.
I am no longer a holder for a combination of the above reasons but had been for many years. I must have been the only long term holder who didn’t pay 3.5p for their shares!
All of the above is merely my own views but with such an enormous number of companies in which to invest I decided it was stupid to be in one that to me had so many negatives.

Zoo and rose. You are BOTH right - it is just that your individual investment strategy differs somewhat. I have been in since 3p days, have sold some twice at firstly at 92p when it hit £1plus the first time and again last year at c. £1.30 and purchased some here and there giving me a current average of about 26p. I have some empathy with the line of thought that an ongoing dividend yield will attract a certain type of new investor to Griffin - however a few pence per share each year really bears no comparison to the potential capital growth if this returns to last years highs of £1.60 plus. Forget my low average and lets say relatively new investors jumped aboard at even 80p - if it returns to £1.60 they can take 80p profit immediately- whereas even with a 5p dividend a year they would have to wait 16 years to accumulate the same level of profit. Yes they would still hold the capital value so it therefore falls to your personal position in terms of age, health and wealth. At 63 I for one don't want 16 years of small dividends (even if I make it that long) but rather will take £60,000 asap to enjoy even more cruises, worldwide golf and spoil my grandson. I think all Zoo is really trying to say is ' u pays ur money and takes ur choice'. Hope that brings an end to a pointless squabble!!!!

Unlike some on this forum, I bought into
Griffin before they were producing, and
before the processing plant was built.
The reason for doing that was to get in
on the ground floor of a mining company
that was going to grow up and start making
money, which they would then share with the
investors that gave them their starting
capital. I did not do it on the expectation
that the company would continue to act like
a start-up long after it began to produce
profits.

Johnie-come-latelys may be happy plunging on
a middle-aged adolescent company, hoping to
sell out at a profit to the next bigger fool,
but that is not investment, that's gambling.
And they will never see the full value of the
company in the share price until it acts like an
investment.

A. There needs to be more share trades in order for the MMs to make a market. Problem here is there's too many long term holders and only 35% or so in private hands. Not criticizing them but there needs to be more fluidity for the market to move. We've seen the retraction shares were sold and bought again by the large stakeholders, the type the BOD want. Its almost a stalemate situation untill there's an update.Zoo

Rose, you like everyone else have a right to an opinion or view. You want a dividend and dont we all know it! But as JP has said its no use lobbing the BB so go and make an appointment go to London and sit down with Roger Goodwin and explain your view. I am not bothered about a dividend because as I've said many times before it doesn't? play a part in my strategy. Why? you will ask yet again.Because they have only paid it once so rather than bang on I want a dividend I just trade this share. It works for me thus I'm happy. You're? not happy because they haven't or wont pay it again. Hence, go and speak to the man rather than try to justify what may or may not happen to the share price if they were to do so. Zoo

Jppp and millwallfan,I have spoken to Roger many many times over the years ,now it's a waste of time ,you don't get anything except he is very friendly and polite,I have just rang my broker in London who still has griffin as a sell, pumping them they say when we know something we can re rate them, they have swung between sell and hold during the past six months, everybody here has a different opinion which is very good ,who is right is anybodies guess,I will continue to hold no matter what,
