11/12/2017 13:13 | Quite interesting that after the trading statement last December (which I believe was the most transformational I'd read from a mid cap company) the share price action was initially relatively muted and only started to push on through late December and January. Could a similar thing be happening this year? | cockerhoop
10/12/2017 21:39 | The Trading Update and dividend announcement was on Tuesday 17 January last time, so perhaps Tuesday 16 January 2018 will be the date to watch. | nod
09/12/2017 11:59 | will the divi double | ccraig69
09/12/2017 11:50 | Results compare with the same period 12 months ago. In this case the 6 mths to 26 November 2017 compared with the 6 mths to 26 November 2016 (or whatever day it was). The period end last Nov 2016 coincided with the low point in GBP.GBP crashed in June 2016 at the start of that reporting period. I don't have the average but last year doesn't look good on a chart.Just waving my finger over the interactive chart, the recent half year looks better than the comparative that will be used. That's all I was saying. | nod
09/12/2017 08:45 | I wouldn't say that GBP is up 10% - it's currently about 1.34 - you're implying that it was about 1.22 - mots of the time it's traded around 1.28. | trident5
08/12/2017 20:54 | Fred, cash has poured into SPO during 2017 with completion of its historic VAT claim and sale of the legacy (but lucrative) Football Pools for a very good price. SPO is now US-based Sportech Racing (formerly SGR) which is international, including the UK Tote operations.SPO has put itself on the market, hoping to hear BINGO from their very hard to get US gambling and casino licenses plus exclusive gaming licences in other countries. Five interested bidders. | nod
08/12/2017 09:33 | And gets a thumbs-up in the FT Adiser ... Mr Ashworth-Lord commented: "It's a fool's errand to forecast markets and invest based on pre-determined criteria. I don't want to invest in any old thing; I want it to be good. "I don't want to invest in something that will affect diversification and correlation; I want a company that has an asset or know-how or a product that differentiates itself from the others". He pointed to Games Workshop as an example, which he said has "captured a piece of the market" and has so far been a stand-out performer. | nod
08/12/2017 09:27 | Games Workshop is discussed on the latest Investors Chronicle podcast. | robinnicolson
08/12/2017 02:22 | Or a merger between 888 and WMH. | nod
07/12/2017 20:18 | That's why I asked. This must put 888 and WMH is play now. w1 | woozle1
07/12/2017 20:07 | Hi w1, Not in this week unfortunately so missed out on the 29% gain today. Too many sector risks and UK disruption for me atm. I hold SPO which has given me a very nice income this year and possible lucrative takeover agreement next year. I post over at LCL now and then, as you may have seen. | nod
07/12/2017 14:50 | Nod, Did you get involved in LCL? w1 | woozle1
05/12/2017 22:42 | The main impact on retail stores has been customers buying online. Toys r Us lost sales to the likes of Amazon, Argos, and supermarkets. GAW is not impacted by the threat of online as they control all the online channels as well as all the retail channels. This has made them unpopular at times but they own all the products, so have the final say. When people breach GAWs rules they get struck off the supply chain or taken to court.Counterfeits has been a threat for 20 years and GAW works hard at eradicating these. They can't do anything about counterfeits within China - nobody can. Some of these find their way into GAWs markets but that's the same for all manufacturers, eg Nike and adidas. | nod
05/12/2017 21:56 | Trident, yes quite likely. It creates anxiety about the retail sector.GAW looks to breakeven on its owned stores. They are there as hobby stores (a place to play as well as buy). A place to recruit new customers who can see model painting and table top gaming in real life.Toys r Us went for the mega stores, pile 'em high approach. Expensive warehouses/stores combined into one. It must have made sense once. | nod
05/12/2017 21:17 | I wonder whether the recent weakness arises from toys r us closing down and rumours that toy sales are not going well, with an ill informed read across to GAW. | trident5
05/12/2017 20:53 | It's difficult to predict the share price at this stage. There are so many factors at play.Sentiment and news releases about sales in the retail sector in December can knock GAW's share price BrexitTrumpNorth KoreaConsumer confidence in America, UK and Europe.Currency exchange rates with gbp.North America revenues were 40% greater than UK revenues.North America revenues are greater than UK and Asia combined. What's happening over the pond is very influential in the results.H1 currency exchange rates will play a part in the interim results to November to be released on 9 January. From last Interims notes on currency rates:- Assets and liabilities are translated at the closing rate at the date of the balance sheet; - Income and expenses are translated at the average rate for the period; - All resulting exchange differences are recognised as a separate component of equity. | nod
05/12/2017 12:40 | Also, how and when is Tom Kirby going to start cashing in his shareholding? | tiswas
05/12/2017 12:34 | I wonder if a share split would help liquidity? | tiswas
05/12/2017 12:29 | Could be worse I suspect a few were stopped out on that dip... | allstar4eva
05/12/2017 12:25 | Sadly I had to go out and added just before that humungous dip. | shanklin
05/12/2017 12:16 | Well I has some more down there. Time will tell if it was a good decision:-) | allstar4eva
05/12/2017 11:42 | Shanklin,I checked with my broker, the volume is quite modest and no-one sitting behind the scenes dumping stock. Just a bit of profit taking going on/consolidating before they take off again in the middle of January. It was a stunning update last week, IMO the best trading update I've seen in my 33 years of investing. Nod a great summary earlier and very insightful. Do you have an price targets for the next couple of years??Last year the results were on the 10th Jan and then on the 17th they gave a trading update and declared a dividend, hopefully more of the same this year. | pnetol
05/12/2017 11:37 | Looks like it wants to hit the 100 day sma at around £19 quid. Could be a good point to add if it gets there. | allstar4eva
05/12/2017 09:40 | Looks likes the seller(s) do(es) not want the facts get in the way of ditching their GAW shares at any price. | shanklin |
