-- melferaj,,

I agree about the value of candles, but it's horses for courses - < 1 year (say), candles are very good - longer term, the chart just becomes an unreadable mess, IMHO. I tend to use candles for 9 months or less, bars up to (say) 2 years, and lines over that.

(If you look back through the charts, there is a substantial minority which are candles and bars).

i note that all the graphs presented in this thread have been line graphs. i strongly suggest a shift to candle sticks or barcharts. you can see so much more.

-- Ape,

You should be able to do all that with Metastock. I'm not a user, but searching for "Metastock" or "software" on here should find you dozens who are.

I use Sharescope to data mine for mine - found AUN & DFS that way recently (and previously ANTO & BMU, both pretty good results for me)

How do you find these Charts I mean how do you sift through 100's & 100s of Companies to find the good Charts or are there any filters available on the net.

Cheers

This one is too easy -- 2 breakouts this year

The 200 day ema is supportive and rising -- I left it off because with it, you lose some of the fine detail

Again, the falling ma shows the 2001 breakouts were premature

You can buy BGO on the American Stock Exchange -- for an ISA, even

Under the "Chart Alerts", Carbo (CAB) is in a "Gap Up" situation.

My reason for mentioning this one is probably fairly obvious.

IMI dropped back 9pts as expected yesterday but looking strong on reasonable volume today. Did you mention that you'd scaled back slightly on this one goodfella??

James Fisher (FSJ, shipping services)

This possibly illustrates the importance of a rising SMA -- the mid 2000 breakout maybe stalled for this reason.

Great thread Sham.

DFS look like they might finally be breaking out, no doubt helped by their
recent good news from the taxman:

Been in a trading range for several months, but now seems to have breached that resistance. Just made a 3 year high. Next resistance looks like 540p neckline of a reverse H&S in '98), then every 40p to 660p.

MA200 has turned up price/MA10/20 made a golden cross in early March

another facet of volume is what is called 'positive volume balance'. a positive balance happens when volume increases with the rise of the stock price and decreases when the price drops. this indicates a reluctance on the part of holders to sell and at the same time a willingliness to buy on price increases.
