08/4/2002 12:48 | BAE Systems is worth a look in this regard. Note an interesting development in terms of today's trades: Large volume, huge sells, and still the price is holding fast. 5 Minute Intraday + Volume3 Month + Volume12 Month + RSI | idioterna

08/4/2002 01:21 | To help save screening time I'm inviting all technicians out there to post their current best technical breakouts. Ideally a breakout should contain the following characteristics; NEW YEAR HIGH - the price should be fresh out of a base & making a new year high BIG BASES - the bigger the base the better VOLUME CONFIRMATION - the breakout should be accompanied with a significant volume increase (v.important) NO RESISTANCE - a new year high ensures no recent resistance but a new 2 or 3 year high is even better LONG TERM (150/200 day) MA's - should be flat or rising, exclude downsloping ma's, these indicate further basing Here is a recent breakout showing the desired volume expansion. Whilst a lot of stocks will fulfill most of the above criteria, the A+ performers will be the ones exhibiting volume like this; (DVSG-ex-rights 9-4-02) Here's another with 2 recent volume surges; WARNING: Just because a stock has broken out does not necessarily guarantee an uptrend. Stocks that move to new year highs on weak volume or are peaking on news releases should be treated with caution. Another common mistake is to pre-empt the breakout. The breakout price is set for a reason. Stick with it and buy only at the breakout. All to often we get excited when a stock is near the top of its trading range and wade in only to be disappointed when it doesn't breakout. Save your capital for the breakouts and get out of those stocks that aren't performing. Stops should always be used. Happy hunting! | sham3001
