When I click the petition link I get a page which says 'Forbidden'. I can get to the petition by going to the home page and clicking 'learn more' at the top right. Still, nothing happens when I fill in the form and click 'continue'.

This is where the answer would be in hindsight, if RA had purchased shares in loads of Ftse 100 stocks then the whole index would need suspending of which would not have happened, so this suspension is basically all red tape IMO.

I wonder if RA could still buy shares in Ftse 100 companies? might be worth trying IMO to give himself a good case lol.

assuming ge still has a large holding, a forced sale by a big seller would hit the share price even more I would have thought . Anyway , should be good trading opportunites if it is not delisted .

Limited trading could be made available if the systems could identify if buy/sells were made by a SIPP or ISA holder but that is wishful thinking as the free float would be quite small.

I think the problem is likely to be the need to ensure Abramovich could not trade his shares.

Remember there is a sanction, the shares have not been seized. In other words they still belong to him. But he can’t/shouldn’t have any access to them.

What mechanism enables that, but also allows everyone else to trade?

When governments rush out new legislation, very often they haven't thoroughly researched the whole spectrum of legal challenge that can be made against it. EVRAZ has a strong legal case if they were to pursue it as there's a clear anomaly between what the new sanctioning rules are and what the position of EVRAZ actually is. However, I'm sure the company is in no rush to go to court at this time when Russophobia is so hot. There's plenty of time for that later if need be depending on HM Treasury response.

Yes, I wasn't serious about that. But given the suspension was "pending clarification" and given that the rationale behind the sanctions was clearly made up by some jobsworth who did zero research, I can't help wishing there was some way to get the clarification clarified.
