Stellios who owns 30% wanted that dividend, could be the last for sometime.

Easyjet could easily have cancelled their dividend payment claiming 'Force Majeure.'

It is being reported the only reason why they paid is because Stelios wanted/demanded his £60mln dividend payment.

They should suspend trading on their shares until such a time as they can fly again and then open back up at £10 a share ;-)

cashandcard.
I agree there is a legal obligation to pay, but I don't know when the legal cut off is. I would expect it to be up to or on ex-div date at latest.
For PSN there was a special div, went ex-div 5/3/20, due to be paid on 2/4/20 but was cancelled by rns 25/3/20.
There was no mention of special permission, court approval etc for this later than late cancelation, so question of legal cut off remains open.

This was a special div for PSN, not ordinary div, so legal small print may have subtle differences, but I assume we likely agree that we expect legal cut off for divs would be at or before ex-div date.

The question as to whether it was wise, or politically astute to decide to pay or not before that legal cut off, is off course a different matter.

It doesn't work like that. They declared the divi months ago, once declared its a legal obligation to pay.

I understand that Easyjet has paid its dividend because the 30% share holder, and we all know who I'm talking about, demanded his £60mln dividend as he knows he may lose much of his money he still has in Easyjet and will not be getting another dividend for some considerable time.

Paying the divi in the middle of the corona crisis was a mistake. If there is any need for Government support there will be a commensurate price to pay by shareholders.

The reverse engineering is pretty clever. Scan the original part in 3D space, take the new 3D model that is creates and then machine an exact copy on a 5-axis cutting machine. Very high levels of accuracy.

Hi Phil,

The outlook is a lot more positive than it was last Friday that's for sure. I like stories like the Mercedes one as it is a network of smaller engineering companies who have come together to help manufacture lots of the tooling for the project. Well done to them all.

Top work Mercedes. Well done.

The Mercedes AMG Formula One team have helped to develop a breathing machine that keeps coronavirus patients out of intensive care without the need for a ventilator.

The Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) device has been developed in under a week alongside engineers at the University College London and clinicians at the University College London Hospital (UCLH), which could alleviate the need for so many ventilators across the country.

The medicines and healthcare products regulatory agency has already approved the breathing aid, which is already used in hospitals but is not readily available, and while 40 devices have already been delivered to UCLH and three more to other London hospitals, developers say that up to 1,000 CPAP machines can be built per day by Mercedes-AMG-HPP, the High Performance Powertrains department of the current F1 world champions.

Speaking to the BBC, Professor Rebecca Shipley, Director of UCL Institute of Healthcare Engineering, said: “Normally medical device development would take years but we’ve done that in days because we went back to a simple existing device and ‘reverse engineered’ it in order to be able to produce them quickly and at scale.”

Can you imagine Easyjet landing one of their A319s on the beach at Barra or flying the 1 minute flight between Westray and Papa Westray?

Another regional carrier, Loganair, has asked the government for financial help to survive the crisis.

Boss Jonathan Hinkles said in a statement posted on Loganair’s website: “The situation is incredibly serious and alongside the obvious health and safety implications, puts the future of the entire aviation industry in jeopardy. With this in mind, we have joined with other UK carriers to seek emergency measures from the government to support all airlines in the sector.”

Loganair is currently maintaining some flights to remote Scottish highlands and islands, considered an essential service. Over the weekend the airline could not even take calls because of the coronavirus situation, directing customers to email them for urgent enquiries over travel within the next 72 hours.

'Early signs' spread slowing down in UK

Today Programme

BBC Radio 4

The spread of coronavirus in the UK is showing "early signs" of slowing down since the lockdown, according to a leading government adviser.

Strict measures came into place across the country a week ago.

Prof Neil Ferguson, from Imperial College London, says some indicators, such as the numbers of new hospital admissions per day, suggest the spread does "appear to be slowing down a little bit"

Another incorrect assumption is any thought of your customer base returning.

It will not
