Treasury plans to take emergency stakes in corporate casualties

The Treasury is preparing contingency plans to take emergency stakes in companies threatened with collapse by the coronavirus.

It is understood that it has approached a City figure who has worked for the Government before to lead a “bailout taskforce” which would inject vital funds into potential corporate casualties in return for equity stakes.

A senior City source said: “This is work all night, sophisticated stuff, and as and when it moves it will have to move incredibly quickly. In three or four weeks’ time they will be deluged.”

The leader of the group is expected to bring in a team from top investment banks and be “ready to sit down and do deals”.

Guys...there longer this goes on we have a bigger problem brewing. Pilots need to be assessed in at least 4 different types of assessment to ensure that that their licenses are still current. Some of these are yearly some are 3 monthly. There are very limited training facilities and the system for keeping crew rated is designed for times when crew cab can to training facilities. If the lock down goes past 2 months there will be a severe lack of pilots still currently rated. I got one will not be boarding on any of the first flights that take to the sky.

If Buffett is selling this MUST be a crisis!

Another way to look at things is that Stelios pocketed the refunds due on cancelled flights, that are not now forthcoming.

Alliance News

(Alliance News) - easyJet PLC on Friday confirmed that it has rejected a requisition notice as invalid because it did not comply with the requirements of the Companies Act 2006.

The stock closed 4.5% lower at 475.00 pence a share in London.

On Thursday, the budget airline said founder and largest shareholder Stelios Haji-Ioannou requisitioned a general meeting to remove Non-Executive Director Andreas Bierwirth from his position.

Bierwirth joined the board of the budget airline in July 2014 and is currently chief executive of Magenta Telekom, formerly known as T-Mobile Austria.

On Monday, Haji-Ioannou warned he would seek the removal of the entire board unless the company cancelled a GBP4.5 billion aircraft contract with Airbus SE, as the budget airliner grounded its entire fleet.

In a letter addressed to easyJet's board, Haji-Ioannou said he will send notices of general meetings to remove non-executive directors of the company for dereliction of duty unless his demands were met. He owns 34% of the company via investment vehicle easyGroup Holdings Ltd, which sent the requisition notice.

On Friday, easyJet said it rejected Haji-Ioannou's requisition notice.

Easyjet have already lost this years Summer season, when they make all their profits, which means at best they will not be making any profit for at least another 12 months from here.
