Sb - I would agree that some buybacks at this level would be a good idea with the dividend maintained.

#lab305, you have sold out right..? why do you continue to invest time and mental energy posting negative content about a company you do not believe in..?

Is time not better spent finding positives in companies you want to hold, do hold and do have confidence in..?

Investing in equities is difficult enough without constantly beating yourself up over what you perceive to be mistakes made..

Another day of the bull/bear fight here.. :o)

I can not see any value better than their own shares for their cash atm

Aquisition talks must be almost finished so they can not get out. And use the liquidity on better value - their own shares .... which is my pure speculation

Less than a week to go until results which begs the question: Why would anyone buy now when so much discussion surrounds the company about its ability to continue when if one waits a week there will be more clarity.

The buyback was already announced they can be bought back a day before update if they want.

I understand that there is a closed period of 30 days before Co, announces result - if so DEC bought on the 17 Jan 2024 and stated update result would be out by 31 Jan 2024 ,
then this DEC has broken the LSE rules of 30 days .!!

Dec is increasingly looking like the boy who cried wolf. Their "model" is extremely complex , so much so that producing gas has become secondary to the running of complex financial derivative instruments. The accounts are certainly not transparent or easily understandable and assessing the company's performance on traditional metrics of making a profit, pe and yield we are told is wrong and free cash flow is what matters.
Many here are defending the company and it's actions simply because they are holders. Is the company to be believed and trusted or not ? The buyback situation conclusively proves not. We are supposed to be amid a second buyback program. The first lasted just 28 days and was abruptly stopped with no explanation . This second one is even worse , inconsistent , infrequent and haphazard. There is no grey area here or excuse acceptable. The company has opened the door wide to short sellers and it's credibility is in tatters. If it cannot be trusted on this why should investors believe anything else it says?

DEC came out that the short sellers were spreading inaccurate data bringing the share price down for their benefit . If DEC management was confidence that this was just fake news - I am still puzzled why DEC didn’t take advantage to buy any more of its shares at such low price so DEC can benefit too since 17 Jan 2024 ? Very confused - definitely need to see the result and next and future proposed dividends

The closed period does not help, but it is opportunistic more generally because the market is currently skittish.

Current mkt cap is 400m.It has 80m money for buyback plus the all ready announced dividend of 33mA lot of shares could be taken out with that and future dividends would need less money or even increased to 1 dollar per share a quarter

Because many investors like me chase dividends. That's why I am here. DEC has always set out to be a high yielding stock. Cut the dividend now and you will play right into the hands of the shorters.

Opportunistic presumably relates to closed period before trading update published.
