An interesting thought Sb. I understand your thinking but I would suggest that that approach might suit the shorters as they wouldn't have to fork out for the dividend on Feb 29th.It would also suggest that the shorters had some control over the company and they would ignore the buyback and revel in any dividend cancellation so I doubt that the company would consider such an option.

The shorters could indirectly be doing us a favour by concentrating Dec's minds on less opaque accounting, more transparency, even better ESG performance, more and bigger BBs etc. Their activities smack of wanting to close out ahead of results imov.

The shorters know there is a trading update anticipated next week so their time is most likely running out. Expect another 'research' piece out from them tomorrow plastered across the internet, designed to scare UK holders into selling their shares. Also their bots and BB aliases will most likely be in overdrive tomorrow morning in a blatant attempt to keep a lid on the price in London following on from this evening's New York close at £10.16 equivalent, all imho of course.
