02/3/2007 09:18 | I decided not to top myself because I've grown accustomed to DTY's volatility. So, you can blame the likes of me for the share price not soaring! | wonderboy
01/3/2007 15:34 | You'd have thought that with the amount of Private investors topping themselves because of the current stock market crash that Dignity's share price would be soaring. | oscarino
27/2/2007 09:33 | Sorry, just seen the FT250 chart fall, explains a lot. DAVPAT | davpat
27/2/2007 09:31 | Well here we go again with another see-saw. Anybody any ideas? Looking here for signs of firm support 650/655. DAVPAT | davpat
23/2/2007 12:20 | Dignity plc is pleased to advise that preliminary results for the 52 weeks ended 29 December 2006, will be announced on 22 March 2007. An analyst briefing will be held at 9am .. (that is the same as date shown already in most listings) | m.t.glass

16/2/2007 17:05 | Bury one, get one free? | m.t.glass
16/2/2007 16:18 | Or perhaps its bury -dig up -bury - dig up -etc think it would make the share price rise! | verynervy
16/2/2007 11:41 | Maniac3, That could actually catch on, Dignity charges a family say £2000 for a funeral than 12 months later re charges them for the reincarnated soul!! ;) | cr4zyness
16/2/2007 11:29 | ? repeat business, maniac3! | old twit
16/2/2007 08:16 | Bottom line is that DTY seem to be a pretty substantial player in this market and with, obviously, repeat business they're a good long term, stable, hold for investors. | maniac3
15/2/2007 17:25 | ed, death rates (ie percentage within each age group) vary every year - sometimes due to weather or epidemic whatever. So it's 'swings & roundabouts' (or like you say - they get you one day). But that variation is less of a factor than general demographics (number of people born whenever and all ageing en masse in particular years). The number of people reaching an age where they might be expected to soon peg out was determined way back and will happen - regardless of whether deferred a year or two. And that will be known to analysts. As will the improvements (if any) in middleage health meaning folk die later - or sometimes by waves of immigration of particular age mix, and by changes in law (implementation of widespread smoking bans, introduction of seatbelts, whatever). Plus a whole bunch of other factors related to health status of immigrants, certain diseases (eg AIDS). But the range of variation is pretty predictable and already factored in by insurers and funeral firms - so the precise timings of a rise or fall in deaths shouldn't seriously matter to Dignity. What I suspect might make a bigger difference is the marketing of different styles of burial/cremation and prepayment schemes and the like, for which there is much scope. | m.t.glass
15/2/2007 15:10 | I know I am going against the strongly bullish sentiment on this board but it seems to me that surely the global warming issue which has resulted in Winter effectively lasting about 3 or 4 days this year that there might be somewhat fewer deaths over the last few months than might have been the case in past years. cold weather equals more illnesses equals people becoming more vulnerable to flu etc ..... I think we all know that. I know, for a fact, that one sizeable florist around the London area who supplies flowers to crematoriums etc etc has seen a sharp deterioration in demand for flowers over the last couple of months. I know the argument is that "they get you in the end" - of course they do ..... BUT .... it seems to me that there is a reasonable possibility that DTY might have to caution investors in the light of the unusually warm Winter weather. Just my thoughts .... we'll see in due course ... and btw I have no position | edcrane

15/2/2007 11:24 | Legal & General appears to have upped its holding by a further 38,683 shares, which presumably cost around a quarter million quid. | m.t.glass

15/2/2007 00:16 | Hmm. Do the Co-op get to decide which bits they don't want? Or was that decided by the CompsComm? | m.t.glass
14/2/2007 18:00 | Well this looks it now 100,000 buy me thinks! ;) Say buy, buy DIGNITY - Britain's No 1 funeral director - is in talks to buy parts of No 4 player FAIRWAYS PARTNERSHIP, Sun City can reveal. Fairways, based in Surbiton, Surrey, is one of Britain's fastest-growing players in the sector. It conducts more than 6,000 funerals annually from 49 funeral homes in London, East Anglia, the Midlands and the South East. But the CO-OP bought an 86 per cent stake in Fairways Partnership in March last year and, in return for winning the blessing of competition watchdogs, agreed to sell parts of the business. | cr4zyness
