Well this is a dead thread (!!). just thought I would post something because the price has moved sideays since the last post, so perhaps we'll get some movement again now..... the chart looks ready for it.

"you DYOR and draw yr own conclusions from chart."

Not too concerned with charts (although they do obviously reflect success) although I DO like the business.

Simple to understand. Nice mid to long term hold.

DP - hope it is shown as break-out as that will hit a few peoples radar over the weekend. Certainly no question about the buying today - albeit small volumes.

On the ADVFN trade pages, yesterday there were 2 big sell orders went thru for 225K. That could be good news in itself as if MMs have been looking to fill these orders, it will now release the share price to head north.

Not sure I understand the OBV which is probably why I dont use it!

yep m3 - quite simply there was a 100p per share return to investors. ADVFN charts cant handle that it seems. if you are new here then welcome - in my mind you are in a good place - now I'm not ramping or anything like that - you DYOR and draw yr own conclusions from chart.

This is a growth company with defensive characteristics - not too many of them around. For me its stability in the portfolio, sleep at night, just keep holding, and don't worry about the dips (unless there is a major change in the business). If I seem enthusiastic, I am !!

all time high?

They reached £7 or more earlier in the year, didn't they?

Can anyone explain what occurred at the start of August?

I think we've just managed an all-time high at close of play haven't we? Let's hope for a nice firm beakout north next week'

Yes melody, another nice bounce off the 50 day. But what intrigued me yesterday was the high volume, which was composed (I thought) of many more sellers than buyers, at least on advfn's trade pages. And yet the Overall Balance Volume (OBV) charts show a big rise in buying. Am I missing a big point here? FWIW I have often seen sp's of stocks rising sharply when the OBV is falling like a stone. I naively thought that in any market lack of demand kept prices low, and high demand kept them up. And yet here we have the obverse it seems. This OBV indacator must be a lag type that causes a delayed bounce or something. Or is this another example of the Market Makers Mysterious Magic. Any comments/help on that?

there we go then - feeling happier DP?! Volume growing too - could be going through 650 tomorrow - funny how things change so quickly. Just keep holding and keep making money!

My take on this is that in a rising market, investors are looking to make quicker profits elsewhere. If we get a correction in the market, this will come back smartly in my opinion.

Fundamentally no change from the trading statement just 3 weeks ago

More determined visit to the 50AV line this time. Overall volume levels back down to those in early November. Any comments/reasons etc. anyone?

Details of IC article (24-30 Nov issue):

The article was in a feature headed "Pick up a Bargain – 10 everyday shares with further to go".

This was a follow up to a similar portfolio suggested last November entitled "10 Shares That Will Deliver", selected by Peter Lynch of Fidelity's Magellan Fund fame, which showed an average gain of 73% over the year.

The premise is that you should "Invest within your circle of competence" (Buffett), by only choosing companies that are easy to understand, and that most investors have contact with in their daily lives (or deaths).

One of the picks this year was Dignity:
"Funeral home and crematorium operator Dignity is the biggest player in the UK "death" market. It runs 520 funeral homes, which handle around 12.3% of the deaths in the UK. It also has 22 crematoria, which handle 7.1% of deaths. This provides a steady income stream, but there are also growth opportunities, including consolidation within the industry. Traditionally, funeral parlours were "mum and dad" operations, so Dignity has been acquiring the best of these businesses and then bringing its management skills to bear on them. It also sells pre-paid funeral plans and currently has 185,000 unfulfilled plans in place."

As a matter of interest, the other 9 picks were:
Entertainment Rights
BskyB
Carluccio's
Yell
Yougov (Also one of last years picks, making 198% so far)
Tesco
Avanti Screenmedia
Speedy hire
BT

A bit of selling pressure in the current awkward climate, not unexpected. Retracement back towards the 50 day AV normal after a good run of late. Still a good defensive stock, looking for a further push up later.

add the £1 per share we have in our back pockets (but which the ADVFN chart cannot cope with) back into the chart and it really does look very healthy indeed.
