jan-marcruising is a nice earner for sure and the saudis certainly have a can do think big attitude, but they will need more than cruising to make up for their trillion dollar oil habit

It couldn't replace the whole oil income but along with other tourism activities it would replace some of it, along with world wide property purchase and other non oil business activities

cunard is a fraction of carnival, carnival make what 5-8 billion on a good year, how does that make up for hundreds of billions of oil profits?

Cash no problem, they are backed by the Saudis. Eventually, cruising will replace oil as the big earner for their country. Seabourne is just the start, I believe this has been the Saudi plan for years. Brands like Cunard are worth billions. Imv, they'll see how seabourne goes under their control, and in a couple of years buy the lot. Btw, not a new convenient view, I've posted this several times before over the years. Covid probably delayed things.

This company to hit early Covid lows before then breaking itself up. Ships being built, debt colossal, albeit matched by diminishing assets. Difficult to see how it will cope with short/medium term debt maturities, as seen by recent new issue of debt at a 10% lending rate. Very difficult times ahead with inflation in fuel, food costs, and difficult to pass them on to customers in these straightened times. Notwithstanding everything else that is current.

You would have thought the company would have made some comment about the price movement

seems pretty well documented in the news. We should hear from the company on this in my mind.

There was news out yesterday that Norwegian Cruises were cancelling Asian cruises. Not sure what this impact is on Carnival perhaps somebody more knowledgeable could share.

Interesting to see how the Saudi Wealth fund has been building a sizeable stake in the company.

If there is a slow down in spending companies will have to mark down prices not raise them...if and when Russia announces war is over or pulling troops out Oilys will fall off...Russia is playing the inflation game to counter act sanctions...but notice more pundits are now saying the sanctions are hitting the West more than Russia...it is back firing...

inflation will come down. think about it 10% rise year on year compounded is massive. So it will peak around 10-15% probably later in the year as there is a 6-8 month lag before the higher energy prices start to be reflected in price of goods in the shops.
