the "company" isn't a living entity, it's just a "thing" that's listed in companies house....it's the "people" that exist within the mechanism that act out this way

On the contrary, the vast majority of people in business are honest and ethical in my experience (I run my own business). Companies like Carillion get found out and get called out and go to the wall.

EIC went bust in June 2016 because of Carillion non-payment. You have a valid point Steak1

Thought not, and the credit insurers are withdrawing from lunchtime tomorrow, not from first thing in the morning. I would not pay your wages for that deramping today, must do better

can't blame the sellers - most don't want to be in this overnight and dreading a potential 'suspension RNS' at 7am.....

Moving into the last hour and the selling is winding up as I speak. Expect a test of 20p at some time.

CLLN have been doing business that way going all the way back to Tarmac days in the 90's to my knowledge Steak1.

As I've said before it's the supply chain that's their real issue not the bondholders and once the supply chain pulls in creditor days it's curtains. I suspect CLLN won't be able to support paying companies quicker and they will simply run out of suppliers in certain areas

If true this is curtains for CLLN. Imminent suspension of trading.

One of the companies i work for is a supplier to carillon, the situation is very sad, most of the staff are nice people, but we were rarely paid on time, when the payment was due on 65 days end of month, we would always have to chase up with the business team in india, it felt like the system was designed to delay payment to suppliers although carillon were often paid in 7 to 14 days by there customers, you would also never get paid in June or December so that the reported figures would show a improved cash position. Some people could argue that this was the statergy do drive cash by using the suppliers good will.

Unfortunately that goodwill will be tested tomorrow lunch time, the credit insurers our company uses are withdrawing cover and the broker is saying that nobody will subsequently offer cover going forward. This could have a huge impact on the cash position if suppliers demand cash upfront.

To any other senior managers in the construction sector, please treat your supply chain with respect you may need there good will in future
