That's exactly why you should never compare solely based on market caps. Look at EVs then dig into the numbers of EV/ 2P reserves, EP/ flowing bbl and then look at net back / bbl etc etc to build a clearer picture .....

The tender offer and buy back are in the past. Instead of 500 million shares there are now 315 million shares.
That is a fact and moaning about the past will get you nowhere.
Look to the future. If you do not like what's happening then get out of the share or wait and vote against.
Or start being positive. The board has not changed for years and is the same board that keeps returning money in one form or another.
They have never given a dividend so why start now.
It has always been a return of capital with a reduction of shares until this tender offer.

CNE said they listened to their shareholders. What they really meant was "institutional shareholders". If you tot up the Form 8.3's in so far >80% of CNE shares are in the hands of institutional holders. That is the reality.

The cne leadership and board of directors are foolish. Instead of returning the India money / pile of cash to shareholders via dividend they did a tender offer? In theory reducing the shares on the market should have increase the stock price, which did not happen. Merger news is the only thing fuelling the stock increase. Does anyone else feel cheated… as a shareholder?? Still don’t understand nor see the value of the tender offer???

Cairn's record post-India is bad. But in last few years its been very bad. It has lost its way and is now just a lifestyle company for overpaid Edinburgh-based gents n gals. Institutional investors know it and have pushed for this deal. I'd vote for it if I was still a shareholder.
