More than the UK chart, any CEO should be mighty sheepish about the BUR chart on NYSE since listing.

I am not sure that makes the movement any more palatable.

The movement is all on relatively low volumes.

Don't get me wrong. I am a big fan of this company. And it has increased in price by some 175% from the lows nearly 3 years ago...but the price action since the summer is unimpressive.

The sort that goes side ways to down when the market goes up and down when the market goes down one way beta

I think the question might be ...

'after Muddy Waters is your confidence in the financial system weakened sufficiently that you might explain away the weak share price since Ms Preska retired to consider her decision as evidence of the decision going against you?'

Why don't you ask Bogart this afternoon at the ShareSoc thing?

It's an uncorrelated investment, AFAIAA, just 'doing what it says on the tin'.

Back of envelope calculation this morning:
Down 25% since late July.
FTSE 250 down 3.5% over same period.
FTSE 100 up 4%
Even Nasdaq 100 down only 8%...

Down 66% from the high.

Anyone care to speculate as to reasons for such underperformance?

Could it be the fall guy has been put in place? Politically she is finished and agreement can be associated with her. No one in current charge owns the fault, convenience?Far too simple I know.

Their shenanigans are fairly tedious, this looks positive as it provides a scapegoat to blame. Preska just needs to get on and make her ruling.....

This was the post, from a first-timer(FWIW)

She got 6 years in prison. She won't spent a single day in jail. As a matter of fact, she could run again and become president next year. Argentine law is very tricky. The conviction is not applicable until the Supreme Court issues its opinion. It could take a couple of years. By then, she will be over 70 years old (69 today) and, in argentina, people 70 years of age or older, cannot be put behind bars. Just serve jail time at home.

It should serve as a message to Judge Preska. These people always play dirty.

Ho hum.

IIRC any negotiated settlement with Burford would have to be approved by the Argentine parliament. This case does potentially open the door to a general review and pardon of CKs actions. If she is arguing that she is the victim of a politically motivated vendetta then if she has the votes to do so it makes sense to draw a line under everything. It is certainly an interesting development

It’s claimed on lse that (a) this needs Senate ratification…..(2) Argentina allows criminals 70+ to serve time at home.
CF is 69.

She has also been given a lifetime ban on holding public office. The sentence marked the first time an Argentinian vice-president has been convicted of a crime while in office.

Maybe Judge Preska was waiting for this judgment all along - she can now pile in with a summary judgment for YPF without there being any pejorative overtones? Once a convicted fraudster - always a convicted fraudster

From Seb twitterSo, the person who designed the expropriation of YPF in 2012 and ordered her representatives in the company not to comply with the bylaws and launch a Tender Offer, was just convicted to 6 years in an Argentine prison for charges unrelated to Judge Preska's case. Not YPF but would hardly stand as credible

Thank you all for your thoughts on Preska's timing, I guess I'd better buy a few BUR to hold in my new portfolio. When it jumps 50% in a day then I'll know to buy a load more very quickly, if I don't do that I'll miss the boat for sure as I don't follow a lot of financial news these days (too scary) and BUR isn't the darling it once was (I'm just saying it doesn't get the press like it did 2 to 3 years ago) new asset class etc.

Thank you also to William C for your kind words and the humour re: the cult of BUR, very succinctly put! Made me laugh out loud

Very good point made by Donald, I'll bear that in mind - but think Argentina will be true to it's former history - it's pretty much always been a desperado and proud of the fact so will be troublesome...

For those who say Argentina will never pay up. Remember that dollars held by anyone anywhere in the world are subject to US jurisdiction and the US is getting good at identifying where the Argentines are holding dollars. It is very hard and costly for any country to try to function without using dollarshttps://twitter.com/sebastianmaril/status/1598974336500699136?s=46&t=hjbU33qLE2NMHeGocTQ00A
