I've heard that loughton, but I'm not sure how true it is. I'm not even sure how true it is that brokers lend out stock from nominee accounts.

SK2, doing what you suggest would look like panic on Burford’s part. I’m sure some of the suggestions will be made in due course.

However, the management has a business to run. It is a small company in personnel terms. It’s 4 in the morning in the USA.

Burford has highlighted its concerns to the FCA.

No need to rush and pre-empt anything MW might come out with. Get all the available evidence. Rushing you make mistakes. And we wouldn’t want that, would we?

Could never understand loaning out of stock when you know it is to be used for shorting, unless of course you are going to take part in the shorting as well!!

typo - i believe the way to get round that is to put limit orders in. that way they cannot lend stock out

Interesting point about the loaning out of stock. Who lends out the stock?

Big managed funds do it I believe. Why would they lend out stock in their funds to shorters? For the fees I guess. Where do these fees go? Do they go back into the funds? Or perhaps, do they go to the fund management company? If so, it's a bit like leaving your car at an airport car park and the car park hiring it out to someone while you're away!

What about nominee accounts? Does your broker lend out 'your' stock, for a fee?

Loaning of stock is a much needed source of additional income for pension funds in a low interest rate environment. It also oils the wheels of the exchange.I appreciate your concerns but banning the loan of stock would be excessive.

I saw that BUR have employed a senior employee from Bridgewater. That may open an interesting possibility

Doubt Muddy Waters will release anything further. They had all weekend to do it. In addition, Gotham had their opportunity and bottled it.

Shares will be volatile for a few days in my opinion. But should see upward trend as number of key announcements are made over the next few weeks/couple of months:

1. USA listing
2. Further positive results
3. Another financial statement in October
4. Possible further selling of large cases
5. Possible large investor in the business (Warren Buffett, Blackstone, Sovereign Wealth Fund).

For long term investors like me, I'm just gona ride it out. Ignore the noise. Back to a share price of 16-22 by end of October.

I have a modest position long. Bought low PE. No incremental purchases to mitigate carry value risk.

Loaning out of stock has to be made illegal, that is the only way to stop market manipulation.

Chimers. I think I’ll take the viewpoint of a qualified Professor not some chimp who has to use capital letters to get his point across
