A second American short-seller has taken aim at Burford Capital, claiming it is "inappropriately financed" and that public scrutiny was "long overdue". Gotham City Research waded into the controversy surrounding the litigation financing company yesterday, issuing a statement saying Burford has enjoyed an "absurdly high valuation" and defending the contentious methods of Muddy Waters and other activist short-sellers, saying they "should be applauded for their work".

Shouldn’t assume that MW was responsible for the market manipulation- there were more than them interested in the share price falling. Shouldn’t be difficult to find out though. If it was MW then it should put a stop to these holier than thou short attacks.

Good questions..... maybe a mega-hefty fine is preferable to jail IF those eventually found guilty are not men-of-straw..... is there any precedent of compensation?? I feel for those who endured real Sell trades and losses last week.... All IMO

Not following this closely, but imagine if a UK entity did this to a US Company?
The perpetrators, guilty or not, would be extradited almost immediately.

Basically, MW are as bent, if not more, than any company they choose to throw their mud at. But when has this not been the mode of operation of the shorting gangs?

Yes Burford would get the money. And to compensate shareholders it could do big buyback or special dividend to shareholders

If there is a case here. What would the compensation. Would it be the drop in share price which amounted to about 2 billion dollars. So is that the amount that Burford should seek in compensation. If it won who would get the money?
