winsome,
Re: 8611

Here's the link to the IMF article TW refers to as 'slating' the accounts of BUR. By implication it looks like a pretty severe judgement of BUR's accounting methods & seeks to distance IMF from such practices. Wouldn't you say?

Anybody realized that MW closed 20% of their short position on 06/08, that is with the first rumours... I wonder if they have anything left.... MW has already made its money so I don't think they will keep showing off

The Times quotes a Mr Whitlow,a commentator on the AIM market (whatever that is!).Anyway,he comments that the short selling critique created a disorderly market and the shares should have been suspended.Totally agree, the FCA should have suspended the shares. Were they even on the case? The FCA certainly should of liased with a Burford and made recommendations.Maybe before something like this happens again, the FCA will have formulated a sensible textbook response. They are clearly incapable of being pragmatic.

stoxx67,

Litigation finance does appear a long-term growth industry, and (as things stand) Burford is global leader.

Reputation can be critical in such a business, mind.

gettingrichslow, yes I thought it prudent to lock in profits as soon as I saw the MW report and before I read it. I knew the lies would be halfway round the world before the truth got its boots on. The truth is catching up now and when the dust settles I'll be back in. Possibly Monday I'll buy back in but meantime I've set a stop limit at 950p so if the share price hits it I'll have put back in half my original holding.

The debates over ROIC and IRR will run for some time but cash receipts of nearly $1.5bn to date on just their litigation investments cannot be disputed and wasn't even mentioned in the MW report. Unless my memory is failing me.

Not as easy as we all thought very resilient at the moment to break and stay above the 800p

Gettingrich and steeplejack. Two good posts in what has become a funny farm of a thread.

I agree share price wont reach previous highs until they perhaps list on NYSE. The headline by MW on 7th was discredited by their own report on the 8th. Namely that BUR are insolvent. Any amateur investor reading BUR's rebuttal of that aspect can see its total hogwash they are insolvent. I bet many reading this don't have the cash to pay off their mortgage right now so they are all 'arguably insolvent'.

As for the shareprophets fake headlines 'Industry insiders and IMF Bentham slate Burford'. I've read of no such criticism of BUR. IMF merely defend their own method of reporting. Shareprophets have done some good stuff in the past as far as I read but they are now hypocrites for propogating fake news that they themselves claim they are experts in exposing.

Outstanding shorts over 0.5% aren't that great. Gladstone must be rubbing their hands together sat on a 0.77% short, but are keeping professionally quiet and going about their business. I expect MW to be selling out below 0.5% soon.

The company has made a robust defence.Yet,for the foreseeable future, the giddy heights of a mid to high teens share price is history. The share price might gradually regain previous highs but we could be talking in years rather than months. The company will be watching closely. If the shares don't return to a satisfactory rating,I would expect Burford to be taken private. It clearly values recourse to equity finance but at what price? The last two days must have been a torment.

Is anyone even interested in MW's opinions any more? They got the wrong end of the stick on Napo. Regurgitated the same old accounting debates. What else of note exactly? Amateurish in my view.
