04/6/2010 08:13 | Get with it, BA turned it down months ago on cost grounds. | horus22222
03/6/2010 17:40 | kgeals - they need at least 50% support of those who vote - not the total number of crew. | exbacrew
03/6/2010 11:55 | I presume if they ballot again they will need at least 50% support of total members? My crude calculations based on 80% turnout and 70% supportive vote from last time only gives 55% support of total members. This would suggest it could be a fairly tight call.. | kgeals
03/6/2010 06:59 | la maroma, It's a (relatively) cheap bit of PR. As long as the strikes go on, the media will be at airports reporting events. A shot of a plane taxiing or taking-off with the strapline on is hard to resist and makes the point for BA. 1 picture=1000 words. | indieman
02/6/2010 12:20 | shauney - "staff are now being balloted on proposals to restructure". No doubt then cabin crew will want pensions increased!!! | alphorn
02/6/2010 10:38 | Flew back from Lisbon yesterday on a Portugese based Euro Atlantic 757 leased by BA into Heathrow Terminal 3. The majority of BA terminal 3 shorthaul operations are being flown by wet leased aircraft.Meaning none are being crewed by BA staff. No way can they be making a profit from these. Re the pension Alphorn, staff are now being balloted on proposals to restructure. Traffic figures later this week should tell us all we need to know as to how this sorry dispute is affecting the bottom line. | shauney2
02/6/2010 09:46 | I still believe that BAY will be a test case in the UK around the reduction of pension benefits. It is IMO just a matter of time before the pension deficit either brings the company down or forces a restructuring where all members of the plans take a share of the losses. (Remain short). | alphorn
02/6/2010 09:38 | BA wont be back to normal, as they have lost thousands of passengers through fwd bookings ! Now on the front of this weeks BA NEWS paper is a picture of the "Keeping the flag flying " Logo. They have them on 2 aircraft now, with another 9 planned "What the hell is the point in that ???? It take two and a half hours to fit each decal ?....Money well spent then eh ? Crazy management, with absolute pathetic ideas ! Its like watching kiddies in the playground playing conkers ! Who's got the best one and how long will it last !!! | la maroma
01/6/2010 22:04 | O'Leary gave his backing to Willie Walsh, chief executive of British Airways, with a message to striking cabin crew that the sooner they return to work the faster BA can tackle its £3.7bn pension deficit. "They have lost the strike, they should go back to work because it is fundamentally a pension fund with wings." | maxk
01/6/2010 20:50 | Good to see that BA will carry an increased number of passengers during the next strike period. At this rate BA should soon be back to normal and that will allow the cabin crews to go on a permanent strike. Its called unemployment and you dont need a ballot. | selborne_edge
01/6/2010 13:03 | The Demise of the unions starts here. People will suddenly wake up and realise they have to stand on their own two feet in society and not hide behind or be bullied by unions who could not exist without members and hold society to ransom. Maybe if everyone had a self employed status they would soon see that "Responsibility" starts with oneself. | chancer
01/6/2010 12:53 | La maroma - unfortunately when they use the term 'Volunteers' it means they are volunteering to strikebreak - they are not doing it for free!!!! Walsh is paying Flight Crew their normal daily wage plus allowances to work as Cabin Crew - how is that cost effective? Who is taking unpaid leave to help out????? | exbacrew
01/6/2010 12:03 | If I was UNITE, I would put my money into BUYING shares in BA. That way they will recoupe some of their losses. | chancer
01/6/2010 11:46 | Volunteers helping out passengers. They are working ! People taking unpaid leave to help out ! | la maroma
01/6/2010 10:58 | Which BA staff have worked for no pay? | exbacrew
01/6/2010 10:42 | Agreed la maroma! | wow400
01/6/2010 10:41 | Thats a slap in the face for ba staff who have worked for no pay, and all the passengers who have had to cancel holidays !! | la maroma
01/6/2010 10:23 | Staff Travel will be returned for all the strikers - have it on very good authority with all strikers losing 12 months seniority, the unions will agree to this as a 'slap on the wrist' | exbacrew
01/6/2010 09:49 | .......and no perks for holiday travel ;-) | alphorn
01/6/2010 08:20 | Graham, thanks. I will now assume that IG wasnt just being difficult. Though it certainly helps them, more than us, if we can't short BA at the mo. Has ANYBODY here successfully opened a short recently ?? | ben nevis
01/6/2010 07:54 | Quantas ... sounds like you've got a serious medical problem down under! | bartram
31/5/2010 21:37 | Willy Must go. | qantas |
