13/5/2010 08:16 | horus - have heard exactly the same - that there are plenty of people out there who have lost their jobs and would want to work for BA as cabin crew if the one's they have already no longer wish to work for BA! Good strong words! From what I hear, there have been new cabin crew recruits that have started the training already so a month later they will be ready to take over. I think we can wave good-bye to BASSA! | wow400
12/5/2010 23:20 | horus22222 - he never said that at all!!!! "So what he is saying is effectively strikers will be sacked and external recruitment to replace them will begin." He was asked about the 12-week protection period and impact of the onboard service if a resolution is not found. He explained that strikers cannot be legally sacked in this period. You are posting total and utter garbage - can you provide a link to the site? | exbacrew
12/5/2010 23:00 | Horus .. you ever done amy serious recruitment .. this will take months to years to do.. | dr darkstar
12/5/2010 18:51 | taken from another site, will be interesting to see the reaction it gets. "WW has just finished his internal briefing to all 42000 staff via WebEx videoconf and the important point raised was quite simply he is "giving serious consideration" to external CC recruitment and that after the 12 weeks of dismissal protection (which is coming to an end), he will take appropriate action on any strikers. So what he is saying is effectively strikers will be sacked and external recruitment to replace them will begin. This will hit the news today/tomorrow for sure." | horus22222
12/5/2010 15:53 | Thanks Old Gig - hopefully we shall get a little warning if BA does go down | selborne_edge
12/5/2010 14:53 | Selbourne, Bankrupcy makes a whole heap of things go away as if by magic. Why do you think some staff are transfering their pension pot out of a gold plated scheme. As far as investors are concerned, it is fairly obvious that they tend to exit stage left rather rapidly on bankrupcy so even if there was a pension scheme it would not be their problem. The government underwrites statutory redundancy regardless of oo did wot to oo. Ian. | old giggleswickian
12/5/2010 07:41 | Old Giggleswickian Long handle that... it was not a lie,it was an opinion..I post what I think is correct at the time..and appolgise if any any way it mislead you. Opinion at the moment is Bay will rise to 238/42 very soon..within 2 weeks. | maximillian1
12/5/2010 00:08 | Says it all in the FT Lex: Cabin crew, take your seats and prepare never to take off. The suicidal streak of British Airways' flight attendants jeopardises the airline's survival. | alphorn
11/5/2010 22:40 | Old Giggleswickian, I was talking of the BAY package - not the state minimum. ........and just why would you receive redundancy on a bankruptcy? | alphorn
11/5/2010 15:30 | Agree wow - A fresh start for BA would finally get rid of all the useless baggage, some of it from the days that was a nationalised company. As has frequently been stated, BA is really a deficit pension plan, with an airline attached. You certainly don't need the type of cabin crew, which BA employs. | selborne_edge
11/5/2010 14:35 | I think that if the crew go on strike, they will be given the opportunity to sign new contracts or they'll be out. Best thing for BA too. Start afresh with younger more attractive cabin crew I say! | wow400
11/5/2010 13:38 | Old Giggleswickian Unfair dismissals does not come in to it! the company are bust no one has a job New company formed some old employees offered New jobs on new contracts (Take or leave it, no redundancy payments old company bust ) Pension deficit removed currently 4.5bn. Ba are getting very close to this Scenario. The summer is when Airlines make most revenue This has dragged on for 6 months plus, sales are down at BA by 30% + Load factors down share price is about to get hammered IMHO | tony727
11/5/2010 13:17 | Alphorn, In the unlikely event of it coming to that what we do know is that it would be paid for by a "strong and stable" government. We know this because Nick Clegg tells us. Ian. | old giggleswickian
11/5/2010 13:06 | ....and who would pay the redundancy monies???? The IMF?!!!!!!!!!!!!!! | alphorn
11/5/2010 12:02 | I suppose that members of the cabin crews are relying on their redundancy payments if and when BA collapses. Hopefully they will only get the basic minimum payment. | selborne_edge
11/5/2010 11:34 | tony727, That is what is called unfair dismissal and would cost a fortune. You may wish to reflect on whether you would wish to have your terms of employment changed unilaterally or whether your employees would be happy if you changed their terms and conditions. I suppose that is why we have laws! Maximillian, Now that you are back would you care to comment on your assertion that a deal was done with the union and that an RNS was appearing after the close on Thursday three weeks ago. Was it a lie or was someone lying to you for some reason. Ian. | old giggleswickian
11/5/2010 10:14 | Ryanair flight makes emergency landing after ash cloud fears | cat100
11/5/2010 09:22 | If BA does go down it will be a very sad day for the UK and of course for shareholders. It would be a triumph for UNITE of course and it would follow on similiar union successes in many other British industries. | selborne_edge
11/5/2010 08:48 | A quick in and out of Administration could scotch Union action, erase debts and let them resume with a fairly clean slate. However, it would also wipe out shareholders ! Seen any director buys recently ? | masurenguy
11/5/2010 08:30 | Morning all Down a bit today ? | maximillian1
11/5/2010 07:32 | This could go bust !!!!!! and do an Olympic Airlines, all debt cancelled all liabilities gone, reform new airline with everyone on new contracts at market rates. all share holders wiped out ( Avoid ) Imho Ash cloud costing 5 million per day on trans Atlantic flights due avoidance extra fuel having to be carried. cabin crew strike hitting revenues a lot of fights taken off sale for most of May and June ( Try and book a flight to Athens if you don't belive me) | tony727
11/5/2010 06:59 | Could Walsh demand a notice from all cabin crew that they sign a no strike agreement, those not signing, told they are breaking their contract if they do not turn up for work, they will be summarily dismissed and sued for damages to cover the cost of employing people to cover for them. Then have a big recruitment campaign and replace all strikers permanently. If they give into the strikers BA is finished, the management might as well go out fighting | bob f2
11/5/2010 00:01 | just heard they could go bust, | cool_hand |
