24/5/2010 16:33 | Considerable damage done to BA,s reputation but by the Cabin Crew. Strange how opinions differ. | oska
24/5/2010 16:23 | Even if this strike were to end today, the damage done to the reputation of BA by Little Willie Walsh is incalcuable and it will take years for BA to recover its reputation. So many would-be passengers have said that they will never use BA again. What a way to (mis)manage a customer facing business! | drewz
24/5/2010 16:16 | JonC Your post is untrue - FACT - You are commenting on something that you do not know the full details of and I actually do - I can tell you for a FACT that BA cabin crew do not get three days off to lounge on the beach in Nassau due to 'Union Rules' - and that is an undisputed FACT from someone with first hand knowledge | exbacrew
24/5/2010 16:00 | Even if this strike were to end today, the damage done to the reputation of BA by these strikers is incalcuable and it will take years for BA to recover its reputation. So many would-be passengers have said that they will never use BA again. I do hope that BASSA and UNITE are satisfied with progress so far. Their colleagues, Socialist Workers Party, can always be called to complete the destruction of BA. | selborne_edge
24/5/2010 15:47 | exbacrew - 24 May'10 - 14:56 - 4733 of 4737 JonC Your post is totally untrue I can assure you that my post is entirely true. | jonc
24/5/2010 15:43 | BAA has withdrawn its planning application for a third runway at London's Heathrow airport following the election of the new government. The airport operator's plans for a second runway at Stansted have also been pulled. The move by BAA was a formality given both the Conservative and Liberal Democrats had opposed new runways. However BAA will follow through with a pledge to buy up some homes on sites where the runways were set to be built. "We recognise the importance of government policy in a matter as significant and controversial as runway capacity," said BAA's chief executive Colin Matthews. | exbacrew
24/5/2010 15:02 | "Tony Woodley and Derek Simpson, the unite joint general secretaries, will not be attending the strike HQ at bedfont today, which has not drawn the attendance levels of the weekend March strikes. The weather and the fact it is Monday account for this, union officials say." Too hot , I also didn't realise that the day of the week mattered, I suppose all those "strikers" in March were in fact family members and supporters who have had to go to their own jobs today leaving just the few strikers who can be bothered to get to Bedfont. | anotherguru
24/5/2010 14:58 | Alphorn Ref your posting - the savings are immediate and BA are already saving money from the imposed reductions in crewing levels - the savings would be made from Day 1 | exbacrew
24/5/2010 14:56 | JonC Your post is totally untrue The crews that operate to Nassau operate a shuttle flight whilst there to Cayman or Turks and Caicos and it is 100% not due to union controlled rest days and rostering. That is why the chap you mentioned would have been able to 'sun' himself on the beach during the day. For you information this is how an itinerary would work. Day 1 operate to Nassau arriving in the late evening early hours of the morning. Rest in hotel Evening of Day 2 operate a shuttle flight there and back to one of the above destinations landing back on day 3 - rest in hotel Day 4 operate a night sector back to LHR - land back on morning of Day 5 Hardly a holiday now is it? 24/5/2010 14:13 | BA lost £540M last year. If it is not to go into administration, it must reduce costs and £62M is just the start of the process. There will a significant reduction in the number of staff, the air waitresses and air waiters will have to work a lot harder and the staff of BA will have to understand that shareholders 'own' the company and NOT BASSA. | selborne_edge
24/5/2010 13:33 | Don't have time to research but from memory the £62m of cuts proposed by the Unions were sometime far off into the future by which time the company would no longer exist. | alphorn
24/5/2010 13:13 | "Contractual rights are of little value if the company goes bust." BASSA have offered Walsh £62m of cuts - the full amount being asked for, but that isn't good enough now for Walsh who is intent on breaking the Unionised labour force so he can introduce 'no-frills low cost' services throughout BA. As if BA's service could get any lower quality than the depths they are already plumbing! It is Walsh who is pushing the company towards the abyss, not the workforce. | drewz
24/5/2010 13:09 | la maroma - 24 May'10 - 12:14 - 4722 of 4724 Wow....you lot are talking tosh ! Are you suggesting that my post is not true? | jonc
24/5/2010 13:00 | Contractual rights are of little value if the company goes bust - wake up and smell the coffee. | alphorn
24/5/2010 12:22 | Quite right. la maroma. Many of the posters appearing on here are intellectually sub-normal Daily Mail types who think bullying, dishonesty, and trashing workers' contractual rights are all in a day's work. From the W Walsh school of ignorant mendacious thuggery. They disgust me. | drewz
24/5/2010 12:14 | Wow....you lot are talking tosh ! Do any of you work for BA ? Are you management level ? I take it you read the papaers and watch the news ? Then thats why you hav'nt a clue whats really going on ! Unite agreed a cost saving of 62m if you forgot ! BA turned that down, and suspended anyone who spoke about it ! More to it than meets the eye, and we live in a free democratic society to speak our minds. So many ignorant people out there, and reading your posts makes me realise that even more. | la maroma
24/5/2010 12:11 | Quite right JonC - The BASSA action is quite unbelievable. The Kamakazi action by pilots of the Japanese Imperial Airforce believed in the Emperor but this bunch of clowns seem quite mindless. | selborne_edge
24/5/2010 11:08 | My friends son is stewrad on long haul at present. Last week he flew out to Nassau in the Bahamas and due to union controlled rest days and rostering he spent three full days sunning himself on the beach before flying back on Friday. All at the shareholders expense. Don't forget that on top of his salary he was paid extra for "being away from home". Total madness. Smash BASSA or sack them. | jonc
24/5/2010 10:44 | The only 'smash' there is likely to be is when BASSA collapses. This section of UNITE is run by a set of bloody-minded militants, whose only objective is to destroy BA. They actually think that they are entitled to 'travel perks'. If I could £30,000 to run round with a drinks trolley I would jump at the chance. Its far more than the soldiers are getting in Afganistan by the way ! | selborne_edge |
