Very interesting for long termers with steady dividends.
I will look a bit deeper into it.

Tuesday fall, I think, is due to Lehman Bros selling all its Biffa shares. But I still have strong faith in this company. The margins are really good (except special waste management section). Recycled energy section has 40% margin. Isn't it incredible? The interim result will be out on 6 Dec.
Best of Luck to all.

I bought in because I believe that we will not stop producing so much waste anytime soon, because Biffa owns valuable assets and because now it is independant the Board will be able to fully concentrate on the business and finally because it could receive a bid at some stage. If we have to start paying more for rubbish disposal then Biffa will benefit. The only danger I can see is that this government (and no doubt local authorities) is clearly aiming to raise lots of money under the umbrella of green (stealth) taxes but no doubt Biffa will be able to pass these on to customers. Also planning permission for new waste disposal sites is likely to become more difficult thus increasing the value of Biffas sites. The share price is unlikely to leap but for the above reasons looks like a good long term bet.

I'm not normally one for giving advice, but in this case I believe as the world tries to go green Biffa will have to become more and more eco friendly in the way it gets rid of the waste we dump. Being eco friendly costs. As long as they can pass on these costs and make a profit thats ok. Just lately i've been reading we will have to start paying more to dump waste, so,......... is that any help or am I talkin bo....ks. Could somene enlighten me as to why the price is slipping at the moment when all previous news was positive

theband - your comment doesn't quite make it clear what you think is BIffa's relationship with catastrophe. Is it basically a dumper of waste and consumer of sites, or is it a goodie, who recycles and rids the world of warming tendencies? I can't make up my mind if Shanks and Biffa are real greens or merely at the terminal of the problem. I'm a simple non-scientist and would appreciate some enlightenment.

Waste disposal goes hand in hand with global warming and destruction of the planet earth. If you wanted to dispose of rubbish in an environmentaly friendly way it would cost a fortune. If we hang on to these shares for at least 200 years we'll all be milyonaires. Whats the story short term, say 2 years? Even George Bush isn't interested. At the moment a lot of waste is dumped in the ocean, how long till they start dumping in space. Lets all buy shares in Astra. Oops sorry, more than one line.
