yes always best to have a balanced portfolio!
this and NG. I consider to be low risk holdings for 2007, although the gains may be capped unless there is takeover activity (which is certainly a possibility imo)

thanks mitzis, and also the FD should certainly have some idea of the prospects too, although I paid a little more than he did.
- good luck!

Great choice bounty I have a couple of mates who work for Biffa and they are delighted with the performance to date but then they own free shares in the company..!
A good takeover contender in the next years but a company in a growth sector.

mitzis - reinvestment of my 'safe' money from SPW today was either destined for NWG, SVT, or BIFF (I also want to retain some takeover potential)
- decided on BIFF in the end!

I think JP added. As I didn't seem them as major shareholders i.e. having interest in more than 3% before. Raising to 4% seems a lot. But one should be assured anyway that the company is up and running well for management bought a good slice of stock with market price recently. That means at least the company is not going into troubles in a year. If you look at its chief competitor, especially Veolia UK, then you'll see which one has which advantages in which areas. I am holding this for long. I try not to be influenced by institutions or experts. Amvescamp off-loaded all its Biff shares, but in a matter of days JP came on board. So who to believe if you are to be influenced by the institutions?

asparks

You might well be right about ALK, but the risk profile is much greater than either BIFF or HSP.

mitzis - HSP not bad, but I reckon Alkane (ALK) has better prospects. Not exactly energy from waste - but is energy from gas produced by old coal mines.

I second that roger I have a 50-50 split on them both but HSP is my favorite.

Anyone who likes Biff should take a look at Hargreaves services (HSP) another well managed company in a basic but necessary industry.
