05/2/2013 12:36 | ft Alphaville BG Group PLC (BG.:LSE): Last: 1,082, down 22.44 (-2.03%), High: 1,094, Low: 1,066, Volume: 6.03m BE Numbers are in line, but the 2013 guidance is a bit on the weak side. BE Production is expected at 630-660k/d BE previous guidance was 660k BE And it's for dull reasons. BE Elgin field taking a while to get back up to speed. BE New projects not ramping as hoped, as new projects rarely do. BE Upstream cost of $11-11.50/bbl BE (That's a buck more than expected) BE LNG also disappointing at $2.9-3.1bn, which is because of problems in Egypt BE Not just the obvious ones, by which I mean Egypt's a quagmire, but because of engineering issues too. BE Let me see if anyone can sum this up for me. BE ....... No they can't. Bloody internet's broken again. | philanderer

03/2/2013 21:14 | Daily Mail 2nd february MARKET REPORT: BG Group backers are glad to see a new year Major shareholders of BG Group, led by BlackRock and Legal & General, were glad to see the back of 2012. The oil and gas exploration firm shocked the market in October with a revised production forecast which saw the share price bomb from 1500p to 1000p. Not long after Chris Finlayson was appointed chief executive, succeeding Sir Frank Chapman, who stepped down from the board and retires in June. The stock has been dragged higher with the trend and added 3p to 1123p. Finlayson on Tuesday gets the chance to get the City back on side when he reports fourth quarter earnings although his presentation will not include the group's strategy update which will be held later in 2013. Analyst Tony Shepard at Charles Stanley expects profits of about £630m compared to £742m in the third quarter. He anticipates a 2012 annual profit contribution from Exploration & Production and Liquified Natural Gas of £3.3bn and £1.8bn respectively. Shepard believes reaction to the October production downgrade was overdone. Significantly, recently BG and its consortium partners announced the start of commercial production on time and on budget at the Sapinhoa field in block BM-S-9 offshore Brazil, one of the group's 'big five' discoveries in the pre-salt Santos Basin. BG's figures need to cut the mustard because die-hards still believe a predator is hovering, hell bent on getting its hands on its Brazilian interests. Oil majors BP (5.75p better at 472.5p) and Royal Dutch Shell (9p dearer at 2250p) have often been mentioned in the same breath, while in November rumours were rife that Rio de Janeiro-based Petrobras was lining up a £68bn, or £20 a share, bid. Speculation at the time even suggested that the BG board had appointed Rothschild alongside Goldman Sachs to form a defence strategy in a case a predator pounces. Read more: | philanderer
