21/11/2007 16:04 | real football yep........people getting stuck in etc.......... anyhow............we think we have problems when inflation creeps up to a massive 1.8%..............lo Zimbabwe to launch new currency to counter hyperinflation HARARE (Thomson Financial) - The governor of the central bank of Zimbabwe has unveiled a new currency for the country, which should be introduced by the end of this year to counter the shortage of banknotes caused by hyperinflation. Governor Gideon Gono told a press briefing that one, two or three zeros would be removed from the currency, without giving more details on the amount of the devaluation. He added the central bank has put in place all the necessary equipment to enable a rapid changeover to the new currency. Inflation in Zimbabwe is currently close to 8,000 pct.
