Average share buyback at an average of £5.02 which they were more than happy to pay. For me, and at current share price of 420p and rising, that is an obvious Green flag. Many Brokers are very bullish also. Not surprising imv given the exposure and opportunities to many growth sectors that Aviva enjoys. I'm confident of a much more rapid ascent post the EU dust settling etc. Long term, this share should prove to be very lucrative I believe.

Not bad 3.70 to 4.20 over a month that’s up roughly 15% . Nice slow positive clime. Hopefully continues in February

I think they opted for the share buy back wheeze rather than a special divi? Happy to be corrected.

Don't think they will want to pay a special until they are clearer about the impact of the new PRA rules on capital requirements for equity release mortgages. The implementation date was pushed back from 31/12/18 to at least 31/12/19 which means another year of not being sure how much capital they need to hold to back these products.

That said 22p would be very welcome! My sense is that 21p is more likely but even at that level the divvy would be up more than 10% on last year. Will certainly be reinvesting if it's still at current levels!

RBC Capital markets re-iterate TOP PICK for Aviva today. Does anyone know when Final Dividend due? Am assuming some time about end of March as interim was brought forward by two months. Would happily re-invest it at these prices!

Would easily add £1 to share price if we end up remaining in EU imo (regardless of whether a new CEO is appointed by then). Also, given that AV. have good exposure to areas of growth opportunities, and an excellent and well covered and growing dividend, the future seems to be very promising IMHO.

Certainly seems to be bouncing nicely from last week's wobble. Much of that is just Aviva following the FTSE higher I suspect. That said it's nice to have a bit of bullish momentum for a change. Onwards to 500p!

There is a bit from the FT that says (about one of the internals)

He has a more buttoned-down style than Mr Wilson. “Investors want something a bit different to Mark. They want an underpromise, overdeliver kind of guy and they feel they’ve had the opposite. Actuaries don’t have the most exciting reputation but perhaps that’s what investors want now,” said Gordon Aitken, analyst at RBC Capital Markets.

I feel this is rather hard on MW - most of the time on results day the share price rose quite strongly, giving the impression that he had delivered above expectation. Having said that the share price has gone nowhere over his tenure.

Dr Biotech - at this level the "Executive Search" agency (never "recruitment"!) are on a retainer for research services (scanning the market, identifying concept candidates, advising on remuneration). They won't get a massive payout if it goes to an internal candidate, but they will still get a decent whack.

Of course the search fee pales into insignificance in comparison to the remuneration of the successful candidate, wherever they come from.

The Barclays fellow got £25mm because his department sold CDOs. Aviva only buy them, so no one at Aviva lives in Bishops Avenue or The Boltons.

You think I’m kidding?

Doc thanks for the article, wonder why anyone would think it a bad idea to have insiders who may go along the same road as Wilson, I thought Wilson had done a good job, no?

spcecks,
As the divvy return is now so high, do you think there is any chance of the divvy being reduced?

I am assuming their income comes from two sources.

1) the Insurance premiums v pay-out

2) their investment in stocks and shares etc.

No 1) should be OK subject to their actuaries getting it correct.

But the premiums, re-invested, might have taken a hit in the last 6 months as with us all

What’s your view
