So the Aviva share price is declining because gilt prices are rising? Is that the theory?

Gilt yields up 10% since start of October. We know this is poison to the UK market .. clearly not to the same reaction to the TRUSS chaos by any means, but the absolute level is now in the same range as mentioned by 1robbob.. I hope we dont see further critical gains tomorrow, otherwise will turn messy ...... Where is the cliff edge I wonder ??

Took some more this morning and have another limit order in here and at PHNX. Rachael has obviously been reading Lizz's How To Crash The Economy guide.

I just wish someone would unplug the train set from the wall as they obviously don't know how to work it.

there was no chance the market would be bullish based on this budget with 40 billion of taxes and 70 Billion of spend. I think its handled it better than expected TBH, but who knows how this will react over the next days/weeks. The US election another fear factor, but is clear any negativity in US is going to travel over the Atlantic. Suddenly Aviva seem even more of a bargain.. GLA

10 year gilts yields are now at 4.5% , more or less the same as where they were at the height of the fight against inflation mid 2023. They are also higher than US ten year yield at 4.28%

Ordinarily on interest rates alone one might expect sterling to appreciate against the USD.However sterling is actually depreciating against the dollar right now, currently losing 0.5% at 1.29

I guess this tells us exactly what the market thinks of UK budget.
Other factors are at play of course (US election next week etc), but the uk interest and currency moves are pretty revealing.

So we have another 12 months before her next chance to wield the wrecking ball again. I did take a wedge of the lump sum, but only to invest it in wife'sGIA, as she's a non tax payer.Easier access is about the only advantage, hey ho.
