Presently if the BOE want negative interest rates then they are going to have to break the law to do it as their constitution doesn’t allow it. Has to be law changes first.

Negative rates are a disaster that no good will ever come out of for anybody. Banks will whack a ton of fees on mortgages and clobber savers. Savers by the way being the only ones with any money left!!!

This is definitely in the nuts asset backed cashflow backed mentally cheap uk stocks. I’m sure there are others but for sure this is most blue chip solid asset backed one. I expect hedge fund may sniff this out once Brexit noise abates and they realise post France there’s a 30% cash divi up for grabs

fantastic buying opportunity on the way as shares will be dragged down by FTSE; at the same time I'm keeping my core holding intact because, just like last week, a new announcement can drop just like that and there will not be time to react

...Well, according to my ropey calculations poor old Amanda is down around £25,000 on her £1,000,000 investment, mabybe a little incentive to do something about the final dividend payment that was withheld, saying that the second wave is about to kill the FTSE 100 again - hold tight !

I’m in at (embarrassing to say)£4.75 ish , so thinking I bought into a defensive stock and seeing it drop 40% is a little disappointing.

I know I’ll get my investment bank and then some by holding on but Av. is just disappointing

No reason to get impatient...we the individual investor cannot affect stock prices.

We can only buy in or sell out when we consider it right to do so.

I am a long-term investor, so buy and hold, reinvest dividends, repeat, repeat. you can only sit back and ignore the market gyrations.

Unfortunately it’s not helping:)
Hopefully we get more news on disposals next week , also divi payment Thursday so maybe some buy back in to Av.
Also more then likely some guidance in a month or two on future div payments.
In the case of future lock down , I don’t see this as a huge negative on insurance sector so we may move against market.

I expect share price to go up in the months ahead but am getting impatient

Not as Covid-19 cases continue towards IMO 500M in 2020

The weakness of UK Bank charts as shown on the BUY thread header over the last 5 years

Is truly alarming

This in the face of a UK property market which has thus far propped up by a variety of Government initiatives for years and years

Can't go on IMO in the face of continued Covid-19 cases and economic damage

What this Government should be doing is reading buywells back posts to dertermine if there is a way whereby commerce can continue WITHOUT lockdowns

That is to say --- public areas need to be made safe ie the virus killed in the air --- this would also include planes and buses and boats and trains as well as ALL offices and Supermarkets and shops plus domestic homes.

Could there be such a way ???

buywell thinks so --- which IMO would make such the BIGGEST growth story for 2021 --- and probably for decades as it would in effect save mankind assuming Covid-19 and various coronaviruses are here to stay and we will see more of them in coming years.

That buywell believes is a given --- and Governments worth their salt should have planned accordingly over a min 12 months ago

Think Aviva France is going to be sold sooner rather than later. There are several new articles in French business web sites in the last few days. There is nothing new, but the fact that it is in the French Press (rather than just being talked about here) is very promising. No smoke without fire.

There could be an announcement any time soon (on AV France) and this should be another big boost for the share price

Have a decent holding here. Need clarification on dividends for any major share price move I think. Added a few LGEN today as these have taken a bit of a dip recently.
