be nice to see some more director buying.

the last round looks a bit like buying 20p pieces to file down and make 5p pieces!

just an idea.

I think a lot of folk will have been caught out short on Autonomy. Their accounting practices leave much to be desired but HP rode to the rescue bless them. Something of a scramble to close those short positions this morning hence the 75% surge and I'd expect some sort of pull-back there. As for AVN they're in a bit of a stick, I'm afraid. To survive these markets you need to have a business model that's delivering and a product that's mainstream already delivering a healthy bottom line rtns. Fine, they have cash but folk will look beyond that, I can't see support in this business for the foreseeable.

Armageddon re markets - I don't think so but there will be further falls/turbulence. Unlike Lehmans et al, this sovereign debt crisis has been well flagged and exposure will be reasonably well understood. The serious issue is contagion (dominos). The only way that can can be averted is collective action. Is there the political will? Well on past performance - in say the Euro zone - one's not exctaly filled with confidence but IMO when there are NO alternatives minds have a habit of being concentrated on the task.

Armageddon: no...
Bumpy ride: yes...
A major test for the political 'elite' [cough]: most definitely!

Well SC being short on Autonomy sure isn't going to help his financial position.

Yorgi,

It maybe a bit simplistic but its also very true . Things are not looking good at the moment but there seems to be a fear of some sort of armageddon which i feel is made worse by the media who are happy to push the negative sentiment bandwagon. Banks or even countries may go bankrupt but its not the end of the world and peoples worst fears very rarely materialise.
As you say, life will go on , it always does.

We already have one or two at are as good as bankrupt......Greece, Ireland and !!!! They would be as good as if they had not been bailed out.....but life will carry on and in the end if an individual, company or country can't pay it's debts then......well banks and those that have their money in them lose out but life will go on....a bit simplistic I know.

which year!

this could get far worse, a major bank collapse or, maybe as likely, a nation going bankrupt.

maybe both

Told EK is no longer on Sharecrasy.
I might be wrong, as I don't really care about him or TW.

Well nothing from EK in today's t1ps update, nothing since Monday where he seems to desperatly want people to buy Trinity Mirror. I don't know a lot about it but something I read elsewhere I'm sure totally contradicted that advice.

There was a notice up on the t1ps site yesterday afternoon saying that EK was writing up his usual wednesday piece and that it would be posted up "shortly" - later the notice disappeared - but no sign of EK.

Perhaps him and Tom have got the handbags out again.

Well I thought so as well Billy when I added a couple of weeks ago but we do seem rather stuck around the low 300's for now but the general market is not helping that is for sure.

The Google deal to buy Motororola just goes to show how valuable infrastructure is. You can have all the fancy online services in the World, but there not worth a thing without connections to the end user, and the company that has a monopoly over the end users internet connection has power.

Exactly Blackberry fibre optic cables are never going to be installed to remote properties and there are plenty of those.

I have found in travelling around that there are many areas that still don't have good 3G coverage as mobile companies have a constant battle to get permission to install new masts. This is why there will be demand for satellite broadband and AVN will take it's share.

good quote from Huawei on this Guardian Story:

Tim Watkins, head of sales for western Europe at Chinese telecoms firm Huawei, which would like to supply equipment for the network, says the final 10% will be reached by a combination of satellite and mobile phone masts. "If you want to deliver high-speed broadband services to rural areas with six farmers, it's never going to be achieved with just fibre."

We have started the week on a positive movement, nothing dramatic but continuing to move on up. Malcommm you call this a risky non profit making company, all companies have some risk but I would not call it a risky company although clearly at this stage in the companies stage in its building of the business it is not profit making. That will come later. With Hylas1 being launched successfully and Hylas2 fully financed and due to be launched early next year that will give us two satellites in orbit to offer a service to an extremely large potential customer base. Profits are not far away and when they come they will grow rapidly rewarding the investors who have taken the risk.

I hold quite a lot (for a small shareholder) and was pleased to have the opportunity to buy recently in the low 300p's
