In my view there is more sense in what TW says than SC on both gold and AVN.

AVN is no longer in the top ten holdings. I assume that is because the share price has fallen so far rather than they have sold any but I don't know.

It does not change my view.

As for SC shorting again I'm inclined to say it is as much to do with him trying to get at TW. Goes on about his contact again !

Yes you are correct I do subscribe t1ps....and yes I must have received the email about the top 10 investments of the fund but it had passed me by but I have had a look after you brought it to my attention and I see what you mean. I'm not sure what to say about that.

From your discussions, I infer that you are a t1ps subscriber (?) If so, you will have received an email about the small companies growth fund detailing the top 10 investments of the fund. Notice anything?

Posted here earlier Bearfoot.......but it was not telling us (those that have been following AVN for some time) anything we didn't already know and have been saying for some time. A combination of a successful shorting campaign and falling general market has brought us down to the level we are now. However it has presented a great entry level or opportunity to add which I did last week.

did you see the well reasoned and positive article in business pages of today's Times? bottom line was 'speculative buy' based on the fact that it's a steal at today's price 'unless you think the whole thing will fail'. It also highlighted the fact the share price has been hammered and is 20% of the company has been shorted!!

I know the feeling I have done it myself at times :-) For the time being I'm holding onto to all my AVN as this does look as if we are about to see this moving forward quite strongly now.......but then again I have thought that before !

The buy i made yesterday was supposed to be a short term trade to take advantage of the bounce but it went a bit Pete Tong - i actually ended up selling for a small loss - only myself to blame - never mind, good to see AVN moving in the right direction.

Good Spot Terryebby. Also found this from a Cenkos research report this week:

Avanti offers the most value of any of the operators. Avanti's market value of GBP247m is only GBP7m more than the equity financing raised for the business. This clearly implies that investors are currently ascribing no value to the considerable earnings capability of the business or the spectrum that the group owns. This is a market discount to both Inmarsat and Eutelsat who are trading on 2.7x and 4.0x book value respectively. As a result, Avanti should be a key holding for investors wishing to gain exposure to this sector.


As they say, looks v cheap. Definitely trousering more today..

Sold in Dec/Jan, looking to buy in again, oversold by a mile due mainly to market conditions and disinformation/short selling, has anyone checked to see the current number of shorts on these?

Estienne, it's pointless arguing about the past; only the future is of importance now. I can't work out whether you're criticising the tipsters only or AVN too. So what are your views, do you think it is currently undervalued, fair valued or overvalued? What do you think of the prospects for the next 12 months or so? Are you invested and, if so, long or short?

Good finish today lets hope we continue the recovery tomorrow. AVN are doing what they planned and I'm very confident that from this level the rewards will be very substantial.
