Avanti has stated that it expects results for year to 30/6/2011 to be announced on 3 Oct to be in line with market expectations but I am not sure what exactly the market is expecting!Hopefully the coy will have some good news up its sleeve re contracts and then some more director buys which are currently precluded because of the close period restrictions. We can but hope.

Ah we have life and in the right direction. I know it can be a slow starter in the morning but at least we are moving now it did look very odd to me.

It is very unusual, I can't say I have ever recalled so few trades and the price so stable.

Hopefully we'll get some idea of when they plan to move from AIM to the main market and an update of the financing of Hylas 3 .

Good summary Jeffian.

The results along with a statement at the time will I'm quite give a good idea of how well sales are going for Hylas1.

It's not a question of invincibility. AVN has a pretty clear business plan and it's just a question of whether they are on track to achieve it or not. The 'antis' have based their attacks on questioning whether AVN will achieve their revenue targets for a variety of technical and commercial reasons which the company has disputed and the Directors have backed that up with share purchases. So far, they have achieved the things they said they would in terms of financing and getting Hylas1 launched and Hylas2 and 3 financed and on the blocks; the only thing remaining is to see whether the revenues come rolling in as forecast. With Hylas1 only just launched, we aren't going to see hard evidence of that in the 2010/11 results but we should get some update on progress in H1 2011/12.

the thing is if you have a holding in any share you think they are invincible.

No worries, I'm not here to cause trouble. Talk here is that Avanti is invincible, and sometimes I find that quite frustrating.
No offence intended for the longs.

That rather depends whether you're referring to age, infirmity or mental incapacity.

Gorvachof - rest easy it wasn't a snipe at you or anyone in particular. As an underwater long I still think satellite broadband is a great business to be in; others don't. I don't think either side can persuade the other of the validity of their case and I'm not sure why they try. First numbers might give a clue but no more than that IMO.

At the risk of offending someone else :-) I think what you are saying Blue forever is that it's the social contact for times when the drop in centre is closed? :-))

Hpcg,
Im not sure if that was a snipe at me, but it certainly was not my intention.
It certainly will be great to see those results.

No problem Yorgi, I'm just trying to help out those PIs who don't do their own analysis but are very much swayed by people arguing the toss on BBs. I thought about putting up a link to my uber impressive financial model which takes into account solar flares and the cost of rare earth metals, but erm it doesn't exist.
Thankfully in the not too distant future we get to see some of those pesky cost and revenue figures and the board can bicker about them instead.

Avanti Communications provides broadband services via satellites, notes the Scotsman. Avanti's shares are the subject of what amounts to a strong alternative gravitational pull and, for the time being, the bears are in the ascendancy. The key to any satellite telecommunications communications provider – and Avanti is much the smaller of the two UK-quoted concerns after Inmarsat – is to translate the not-insubstantial capital costs of launching the machine into the collecting of customers. One must acknowledge the sceptics' concerns but this Aim-quoted group seems to enjoy an increasingly-defined orbit, supported by sufficient funds to launch both its Hylas 2 and Hylas 3 satellites. The risks of re-entry burnout must be acknowledged but, for the more-speculatively inclined, the shares are worth a look, according to the Scotsman, which recommends a buy.

Bulletin Boards crack me up they really do. All this arguing over a future which no one can predict. No investment is cast iron and with anything technology based there is additional risk as mankind's ingenuity can quickly take a sledgehammer to today's shiny new fax machine.

I think there are just a few things which the potential investor here needs to work out for themselves:

1. For the area's which Avanti plans to cover will demand for bandwidth match or exceed supply.
2. For the area Avanti plans to cover at what premium to cost will the market be prepared to pay for each bit.
3. Integrate over the planned life of the satellites taking into account demographic, economic, supply-demand and technologic changes.

As that is a near impossibility the investor probably has to use their accounting metric of choice with estimated revenues and costs and then discount the risk factors they think pertinent. Everyone will come up with a different answer so you pays your money (or not) and takes your choice.

Gorv. I didn't say Africa wasn't relevant I said that someuwin's article was relevant time wise. If you spent a little time watching the news you would realise that a lot can happen in africa in 5 months.
