28/10/2010 16:37 | Hi folks - for those interested the launch of the last Ariane 5 before HYLAS 1 goes next month is on tonight - watch live at between 1050pm and midnight BST. Another successful launch should reassure those doubting but will still leave the doom merchants with the view that the probability of failure in the next mission just increased by 1/39th (if I got my maths right)!! "Ariane 5 rolls out for its launch with the W3B and BSAT-3b satellites October 27, 2010 - Ariane Flight 197 The heavy-lift Ariane 5 completes its rollout approaching the Spaceport's ELA-3 launch zone at left, where it was locked in position for tomorrow's liftoff with the W3B and BSAT-3b satellites. The Ariane 5 for Arianespace's next mission has moved to the launch pad at Europe's Spaceport, readying it for tomorrow's liftoff with a dual payload of telecommunications satellites for Europe and Japan. Emerging under clear French Guiana skies at 10:45 a.m. local time today, the heavy-lift Ariane 5 ECA was transferred during a one-hour process from the Spaceport's Final Assembly Building to the launch zone. Preparations now are underway for tomorrow's final countdown, which will lead to liftoff during a launch window that opens at 6:51 p.m. local time and continues to 8:01 p.m." | ib1905
28/10/2010 13:45 | Hey SS, Good to see you making an appearance ;-) | bongo bwana
28/10/2010 11:51 | Ive seen this manipulative practice before and am not at all surprised to see it operated so effectively here. We can expect further (dare I say 'wild'?) manouverings in the share price as we approach the launch date. Thats why Im holding a lump of cash to add to my holding at some stage in the coming weeks. | bongo bwana
28/10/2010 11:37 | Very good question......and yes maybe we are being manipulated but one day soon I'm quite sure the share price will pick itself and head off north | yorgi
28/10/2010 11:36 | ...Is that a question or a statement? | someuwin
28/10/2010 11:30 | Big Question. Contract wins, launch soon, share price going down. Why. We are being manipulated. | deadsceptical
28/10/2010 10:28 | 19 trading days to go... | someuwin
27/10/2010 20:57 | Seeing as you mention TW, this is part of his comment on Today's news... '...No financial details were provided though Avanti Chief Executive David Williams emphasised the "sales momentum in the enterprise sector growing ahead of the imminent launch" of the company's Hylas 1 satellite. Ahead of the planned 25th November launch, Avanti shares currently trade at 612p. However, I continue to fail to see how, on a Discounted Cash Flow basis, these shares should trade at anywhere this side of £10 and continue to consider a target of £15-£25 per share (depending on the pricing of forward capacity sales) as realistic. With further gains likely down the line as Avanti continues to expand its satellite operations, at up to 750p the shares continue to rate a clear "buy".' | someuwin
27/10/2010 20:44 | I know very little about this field, but personally think the market will reward AVN for these contracts after a successful launch. It wouldn't be unrealistic to expect a sharp rise to a level comfortably above £7 shortly after the launch. | rafieh
27/10/2010 19:00 | TW has been tipping this for about 5 years, long before they got into the satellite business. I bought these at about £1.20 originally and have been adding since.TW is irrelevant to the story going forward.I don't think many people follow his tips these days. | sg31
27/10/2010 17:38 | paleje: I know what you mean! I well remember Tom's tips during the dotcom bubble. If I learnt anything from that it was to 'take my money off the table early' !!! I have to confess his interest in AVN 'unsettled' my previous confidence in this share. TOM's 'boiler room' approach unsettles me. As previously posted I have to an extent under-written my investment deciding not to be 'too greedy'. I have noted some posters comments with some trepidation for their approach to what is a 'high risk: high reward' share. For what its worth I fail to see why the price should rise to 700p prior to launch date. This has been a good BB . My advice to all holders is do not overstretch yourselves in the hope of a further steep short term rise in the AVN share price. For this type of share 'IF' can prove to be a bigger word than 'INVESTMENT'. I know .....I got caught with one of Tom's 'winners' back in 2001! | wendsworth
27/10/2010 15:19 | With good news of more contract wins why does this share not respond positively? - surely investors cannot be that bloody cautious ahead of a launch by Arianne (in less than 4 weeks) which has years of reliable and sucessful satellite launches. Frustrating, so I have topped up with another 2000 shares in my SIPP! | adorling
27/10/2010 09:42 | Some background info on broadband access in Hungary. Mostly relating to cellular mobiles and wired-in services, but a few bits that might be relevant to satellite services: (see additional links below it) | m.t.glass
27/10/2010 09:34 | ;-) yorgi. here we go with the Pr then. | share_shark
27/10/2010 09:16 | LOL maybe so Share Shark........should have bought more and the day before but will be adding when some funds permit | yorgi
27/10/2010 09:08 | Its all those shares you bought over there !. ;-) Made you drunk and dizzy !. | share_shark
27/10/2010 08:58 | Late start today....:-( But more great news for AVN :-) Perhaps this will help get the share price going on up it has made a start | yorgi
27/10/2010 07:16 | Great news. Financial services/payment systems, a whole new arena for AVN satellite support! | someuwin
27/10/2010 07:14 | Agreed, agreed !. ;-) | share_shark
27/10/2010 07:10 | 'I am pleased to see sales momentum in the enterprise sector growing ahead of the imminent launch.' nice...;-) | kimball808
27/10/2010 07:09 | Contract Win Avanti Communications (AIM: AVN), the broadband satellite operator is pleased to announce that it has signed a three year managed services contract with the Hungarian service provider Banknet Kft. This service will be delivered by Avanti's HYLAS 1 satellite due for launch on 25 November 2010. Banknet Kft provides critical communication services to the financial community throughout Hungary and, as the sophistication of banking and credit card systems increases, anticipates steady growth in demand for connectivity. Commenting, David Williams, Avanti Chief Executive, said: "I am delighted that a provider of such critical financial services has selected Avanti as its partner. It demonstrates the value of the flexibility and high security which HYLAS 1 can offer and I am pleased to see sales momentum in the enterprise sector growing ahead of the imminent launch." | goneawol |
