Astrium: 39th consecutive success for Ariane 5

ariane 5 ECA, Access to space & Telecommunications
Kourou, 28 October 2010 - Ariane 5, developed and built by Astrium, was successfully launched from Kourou in French Guiana.



François Auque, Astrium CEO, warmly congratulated and thanked the Astrium teams based in French Guiana, France and Germany, "for this latest success that once again affirms the excellence and quality of the Ariane 5 ECA launcher. This launcher has risen to the challenge yet again by sending two telecommunications satellites into orbit".



Ariane 5's next flight will carry the new generation HYLAS 1 satellite developed by Astrium for the satellite operator Avanti Communications. HYLAS 1 will supply high-speed broadband services to remote rural areas throughout Europe.

Do we know if HYLAS 1 is insured as was the Eutelsat sat.?

eutelsat has recouverd well, would suggest that we might not get a big fall even if launch does fail, although they do already have working satellites.

Fall to 550 i agree could be poss, but on successful launch id like to see the share price base at least 7pounds and move up from there.

chrissey - speculation is the root of all investing but making up arbitary percentage moves from an unknown base is not really speculating, it's just throwing out random unsupported numbers.

My chart sees scope for a fall to 550 from here. 10%+ from there takes us back to where we were yesterday and yet, clearly, if the launch and deployment are successful AVN is surely worth more than it was yesterday? If the price falls no further than today then your 10% takes us close to a new high (mid). Quite a difference.

Just go with the flow and be aware that the price is likely to be volatile in the lead up to the launch. Either one has the stomach for it or one doesn't. I do and I think there will be one almighty rush if things go well on 25th November. A rush that will take us to a new high and higher....for anything else would be borering on illogical. But when has the market ever been logical.

speculation is the root of all investing, we speculate as individuals and to varying extents.

I was also making the point that a successful launch isn't a guarantee of a successful deployment so I am refining my speculation accordingly.

ok, this is quite educational.

I will now say 10% rise on successful launch oy Hylas 1 and another 5% rise after successful deployment.

Important to note that last night's failure was with the satellite itself, not with the Ariane 5 launcher which worked perfectly.

The Eutelsat W3B which failed was manufactured by Thales Alena Space. The Avanti Hylas-1 is made by EADS Astrium.
