09/11/2010 08:44 | Well it looks like the "people will wake up to the potential here" brigade were spot on - a few trading days before the launch and off we go. Well done to all those who have been here a long time. I have 30% mark up to date but small beer compared to the ones in early. What about a launch night virtual party? GL all | ib1905

08/11/2010 22:22 | Nice article might have to buy the ft tomorrow. A lot of valid points raised, i for one knew at 6 pounds whilst risky i should make my last top up and luckily it paid off. We are past resistance and moving near launch, and the sector and markets in general are performing strongly, my personal advice to friends yet to buy in is under 7 pounds is good value but now is not the time imo to buy expecting a gauranteed quick buck although this may still occur. Happy for everyone here. The quality of posting has remained strong throughout and hopefull when this company is larger than inmarsat in a few years we can turn round and say not only were we pioneers but we took a risk and used it to help our lives. P.s hope everyone has their popies for the 11th | sco77harris
08/11/2010 22:21 | We will see what tomorrow brings.....maybe RNS some great contract win ??? I think just the realisation that launch is only days away and providing all goes well then the share price will be on the move as contracts are won and the money rolls in :-) | yorgi
08/11/2010 21:10 | When the launch was several weeks away there was no great urgency for people to buy in to milk the post launch rise. Now, with only 12 trading days to go a few more people start taking positions. The share price starts to rise. At that point others sat on the sidelines realise they have to get in quick before 'the train leaves the station'. Thus the share price rise is exacerbated. I now expect further rises as lift off gets ever closer (will soon be in range of the t10ers). Everyone who doesn't want the 'risk' is probably out completely now, so we should see significantly more buying than selling in the days left. Should get exciting... | someuwin
08/11/2010 21:06 | Contract win maybe? | ib1905
08/11/2010 20:53 | Yes,but why? Nothing has changed since the last couple of weeks. The risk/reward stays the same so why a 53p rise today? Something other than the launch in the offing? | blue forever
08/11/2010 20:41 | Highest closing price ever... | someuwin
08/11/2010 20:21 | Also with G Osborne in China now and shortly to be joined by David Cameron next week,I am led to believe that they will be outlining the merits of British Technology once again,as well as all other great things British !. ;-) | share_shark
08/11/2010 20:16 | FT. UK space industry on a high By Mary Watkins Published: November 8 2010 19:36 | Last updated: November 8 2010 19:36 The government sought to highlight the health of the UK's space industry as it unveiled the findings of a new report that showed the sector is now worth £7.5bn to the British economy. Oxford Economics said in a report commissioned by the UK's Space Agency that the sector had defied the economic downturn, growing on average by more than 10 per cent over the last two years. The number of people employed in the industry had risen by more than 12 per cent to 24,900, 70 per cent of which hold at least one degree. However, the report highlighted that there is a shortage of skilled engineers. David Willetts, the universities and science minister, said the government would work to improve the flow of graduates to the sector and would also continue to support the country's research base. The UK, which spends much less on its space industry than the US, India or France, is also working on securing more foreign investment. Broadcasting continues to contribute most to overall revenues in the UK's space and satellite sector, with sales of £5.1bn. Telecommmunications generated £1.8bn in 2008-09, the report found. Underlining that strength in the sector, UK-based satellite operator Inmarsat on Monday reported a strong set of third-quarter results and said it was on track for a good year. Later this month the Avanti Communications, the UK-based satellite operator, is scheduled to send its Hylas 1 satellite into orbit from a launch station in French Guyana. The newly formed UK Space Agency is trying to establish the country as a world leader in the space industry. It is already working on a number of moves to encourage further investment in the sector, which contributed about £6.2bn to GDP in 2008-09. The UK government is helping to back a £40m space hub at Harwell in Oxfordshire that aims to pull together government, businesses and research in the industry. The European Space Agency set up a technical facility at Harwell last year. Magellium, a French space and defence software group, recently established a subsidiary at the International Space Innovation Centre. The idea of creating a critical mass to encourage a sector is also being applied by the government to the technology sector. Last week David Cameron unveiled a series of initiatives designed to help develop a Silicon-Valley style cluster of technology companies between Old Street and the site of the new Olympic Park in east London. | share_shark
08/11/2010 20:03 | Good luck people. Hope that today's rise is maintained. Whilst I do not want to speak to soon, I hope that this is the start of the share price also going into orbit. SS Scott etc thanks for your research and reassuring posts. Found AVN 3/4 months ago but the info on this thread has been a comfort blanket. Avanti Xmas party at the Fat Duck I think! | cantonblue
08/11/2010 19:01 | i guess took a while for people to absorb the info, also might of triggerd some buy orders above 6 pounds, as that was resistance it should be on an uptrend now until launch. | sco77harris
08/11/2010 18:56 | Just wondered why it took till around 1pm this afternoon before the rise began? Most of the stuff mentioned above happened first thing, also there`s been lots of pr about this share over the last few days yet none of it had any impact on the share price | blue forever

08/11/2010 18:36 | also it was also mentioned briefly in the business section on R4 Today prog. | sco77harris
08/11/2010 18:35 | HYLAS mentioned on Radio 5 Live Wake Up To Money this morning. "The UK space industry has grown at an average of 10% a year over the past four years, bucking the trend set by the rest of the economy. As Science Minister David Willetts prepares to visit the UK's satellite monitoring station for the launch of the UK Space Agency's report on the size and importance of the British space industry, we speak to the agency's director, David Parker." | sco77harris |
