24/1/2013 11:15 | Google Finance have had AVN Interims listed for a while now as Feb 4th. Will any of you be visiting the AVN stand at the Design Centre next Tuesday afternoon? | ![]() lazyj
23/1/2013 22:43 | thanks for the inputs, guys. I think Tomco matches the descriptions I've seen. | ![]() backmarker
23/1/2013 16:33 | Hi waterloo01, Last year's figs to 31/12 were released in a trading update 6 Feb. Whether they'll do the same this year or do something different ('in line with our planned move to main market...') isn't clear to me. Maybe someone who follows more closely could comment ? 22/1/2013 21:40 | backmarker re RHPS - definitely NOT Bahamas Petroleum. There's a Bahamas referendum on the cards in a few months (Government giving the population a chance to vote for or against oil exploration) - daft I know. But on the strength of this, RHPS took the view (months ago) that the shares would tread water. So they advised subscribers to sell whilst promising to return at a future date . . . The future date will obviously be soon. They gave Tomco Energy another write up at the start of this month . . . | johncsimpson
22/1/2013 20:50 | Caledonia Investments (CLDN) performed a little better, but its share price returns were further impacted by an increase in its discount. At 25% it offers scope for accelerated share price gains if efforts to reshape the portfolio prove successful. Will Wyatt is the most recent scion of the controlling Cayzer family to take charge. In his first two years he sold a lot of smaller holdings and increased exposure to the US and parts of the Far East. He has also boosted the trust's income by establishing an income and growth portfolio, and by favouring more mature investments in the unquoted sector, which accounts for more than a third of the trust's assets. Caledonia raised its dividend by 15.6% last year, the 45th successive annual increase, and Wyatt is targeting further increases. Despite its rising income, the trust's main objective is long-term capital growth, which it hopes to achieve through an eclectic and proactive approach. Listed assets include large stakes in Close Brothers (CBG), Bristow Group (BRSC) (offshore helicopters), Avanti Communications (AVN) and a Belgian investment company. Unlisted assets include recently increased exposure to China and North America. Wyatt's personal shareholding in Caledonia is worth around £14 million. | martincoops
22/1/2013 16:15 | Think he did TXO and then they announced a discounted placing couple of days later, I picked a few up on the dip. DC | ![]() daicaprice
22/1/2013 15:27 | backmarker. No I'm not a subscriber to RHPS but I'm pretty sure it is Bahamas petroleum (BPC) He's been pushing it for about a year and it has gone down from about 7p to 5p. | ![]() 123prezzie
22/1/2013 12:13 | off topic, if anyone here is a subscriber to Red Hot Penny Shares - I used to be, but AVN is the only recommendation I took up (and look where that got me !!!) - would they satisfy my curiosity by telling me which is the oil stock that Tom Bulford has been promoting recently. tia. | ![]() backmarker
22/1/2013 12:09 | well, the old EK hasn't made so much out of AVN this time around - thank heavens - although the subsequent drop did tip me out of my small spreadbets. I am looking forward to the next trading statement. the key numbers I am looking for are: 1) a substantial increase in revenue, in line with assumed sales in line with targets; 2) more importantly, a flat or only marginally higher cost of sales. it's this latter figure that has worried me, as it had been growing faster than the revenue. presumably that's because they've been growing the salesforce ahead of the salesforce making some of the new sales. therefore we have seen additional costs relating to the expanded team before we get the new sales followed by the increase in recurring revenue. but at some point the salesforce has to stop growing and each member make some new sales leading to new recurring revenue but without additional cost. only then might we see actual trading profits. | ![]() backmarker

16/1/2013 08:13 | I don't know about that but, as we "look forward to benefiting from the broad business judgement and skills he developed working at the highest levels in the accounting profession", hopefully he will stop c0ck-ups like changing accounting procedures and missing profit forecasts in the weeks between the IMS and the results! | ![]() jeffian

15/1/2013 13:59 | Very much so Gary. Something I have commented many times Is David Williams enthusiasm and one of the reasons I invested in the first place :-) | ![]() yorgi
15/1/2013 13:56 | Good find yorgi. DW is still clearly enthusiastic. Boring I agree waiting for progress! :-) P.S. Avanti is the only blue share price today on my watchlist! | garymott
15/1/2013 13:17 | I agree Jeffian and if it continues slowly but steadily then that is fine. | ![]() yorgi
15/1/2013 12:45 | I don't know anything about charts either, but it's heartening that we've now had a run of steady, if not spectacular, gains from what is looking (hopefully!) like the low point. This makes sense as projected revenues turn into real ones (assuming they do!). | ![]() jeffian
14/1/2013 22:33 | Hi Gary :-), I'm watching quietly and hope that what appears to be a recovery continues but for it to be maintained we will need to see some good numbers in the next results. | ![]() yorgi
14/1/2013 11:49 | Hi yorgi, still say nothing! :-) | garymott |
