Mass infection prevention and mass vaccination with leaky Covid-19 vaccines in the midst of the pandemic can only breed highly infectious variants.

BERLIN -- Scientists in Europe said they had identified a mechanism that could lead the AstraZeneca PLC vaccine to cause potentially deadly blood clots in rare instances as well as a possible treatment for it.

Two teams of medical researchers in Norway and Germany have independently found that the vaccine could trigger an autoimmune reaction causing blood to clot in the brain, which would offer an explanation for isolated incidents across Europe in recent weeks.

Several European countries briefly halted their rollouts of the vaccine this week after more than 30 recipients were diagnosed with the condition known as cerebral venous sinus thrombosis or CVST. Most of the people affected were women under the age of 55.

The issue affected a tiny portion of those who had received the shot however, and after investigating, the European drugs regulator ruled that the benefits outweighed the potential risks of the vaccine, and recommended vaccinations resume.

Some countries, such as Germany, France and Italy, resumed vaccination with AstraZeneca's shot on Friday, with an added warning that it could be linked to blood clotting. The French healthcare authority, which recorded three cases of CVST connected to the vaccine, advised the government on Friday to only administer the shot to people older than 55.

Others, including Norway, Sweden and Denmark, said they needed more research before restarting their rollouts. Norway registered three cases of CVST, one of them fatal. The country vaccinated around 120,000 people with the shot. Finland suspended the use of AstraZeneca on Friday, after recording two cases of what the authorities called unusual blood clotting.

Pål André Holme, a professor of hematology and chief physician of the Oslo University Hospital who headed an investigation into the Norwegian cases, said his team had identified an antibody created by the vaccine that was triggering the adverse reaction.

"Nothing but the vaccine can explain why these individuals had this immune response," Prof. Holme said.

Norway's health authority cited the findings when announcing that it would not resume the vaccination.

A team of German researchers around Andreas Greinacher, professor of transfusion medicine at the Greifswald University Clinic, said they had independently came to the same conclusion as Prof. Holme in a statement and a press conference on Friday.

In Germany, 13 cases of CVST were detected among around 1.6 million people who received the AstraZeneca vaccine. Twelve patients were women and three died.

The German researchers, who coordinated with colleagues in Austria, Ireland and Britain, said in a statement that patients who show symptoms four days after vaccination, such as headaches, dizziness or impaired vision, could be quickly diagnosed with a blood test. Prof. Greinacher said the news meant that people should not fear the vaccine.

"Very, very few people will develop this complication," Prof. Greinacher said in a press conference Friday. "But if it happens we now know how to treat the patients."

He said that, after a swift diagnosis, the condition could be treated in any mid-sized hospital.

The German government said it was examining the findings, but stuck to its decision to resume use of the AstraZeneca vaccine.

AstraZeneca didn't immediately react to a request for comment. Neither did the medicines regulators in Britain, Germany, Austria and The Netherlands, where vaccinations using the AstraZeneca vaccine have either resumed or weren't suspended this week.

The European Medicines Agency, or EMA, which regulates medicines for most European countries, said that it had assessed the cases from Germany and Norway and discussed them with the relevant national authorities.

A spokesperson for EMA said that the vaccine may be associated with very rare cases of blood clots, including CVST, but that the benefits of the vaccine outweigh that risk.

"A causal link with the vaccine is not proven, but is possible and deserves further analysis," the spokesperson said in a statement.

Neither the German nor the Norwegian findings were published or peer reviewed. Prof. Greinacher said he had submitted his findings for publication to the British medical journal The Lancet.

The German Society for Thrombosis and Hemostasis Research reviewed Prof. Greinacher's work and issued a statement Friday advising physicians how to diagnose and treat the condition should it arise in vaccine recipients.

Dr. Robert Klamroth, deputy-chairman of the Society for Thrombosis and Hemostasis Research, said the rare autoimmune reaction occurred more frequently in Germany because the country initially only authorized the vaccine for people younger than 64. Britain, which had fewer incidents but vaccinated many more people, was predominantly giving the shot to older recipients.

Once diagnosed, the condition should be treated with blood thinning medication and immunoglobulin, which targets the antibody that causes the problem.

"We believe the most likely hypothesis is that this particular vaccine is causing a rare autoimmune reaction that triggers antibodies, which then interact with the platelets, but we don't know why this is happening," Dr. Klamroth said.

There are 140,000 Long Covid cases im London alone

Circa 400,000 plus in the UK

And is is anticipated this number could grow to 1M as 20% of Covid recovered people now have it so the number is growing rapidly

Long Covid can affect many different organs and combinations of organs so differing presentational combos for the NHS to have to sort out

At present they have no idea how to do so but are learning on the job

Since Covid-19 can leave you damaged --- buywell takes issue with the UK Government that it is sending kids and teachers into classrooms unvaccinated and putting them in harms way as they breathe the aerosol of anyone in that classroom that has Covid-19 ie asymptomatic no symptoms

UK schools are now increasingly being closed as kids test positive for Covid-19

The chances are that they will become Long Covid patients themselves if not this time --- then the next time they get Covid-19 from another Variant

Some of the new Variants affect kids much worse than the original strain

Collected evidence that lockdowns do more harm than good

The Health Advisory and Recovery Team (HART) is a group of highly qualified UK doctors, scientists, economists, psychologists and other academic experts, including sceptical stars whose pieces have been featured or flagged up in Lockdown Sceptics such as Dr John Lee, Dr Clare Craig, Dr Malcolm Kendrick, Joel Smalley, Prof David Livermore, Prof David Seedhouse, Prof David Paton and Dr Gary Sidley.

The team has now produced its most devastating piece of work to date. The new report, entitled "COVID-19: an overview of the evidence", was sent to MPs today to encourage them to vote against the renewal of the Coronavirus Act in the coming week. With over 50 pages of meticulously referenced evidence from specialists in their fields, it shows beyond doubt why the Government's response to the coronavirus outbreak has been ineffective and disastrous and a new approach is required.

"The data is in," it declares on the cover. "Lockdowns serve no useful purpose and cause catastrophic societal and economic harms. They must never be repeated in this country."

Read it here, share it on social media, and why not send it to your MP? The more who do, the more likely they are to peek inside.

Stop Press: The report has been endorsed by Sir Graham Brady MP, who said:
"The World Health Organisation said last year that lockdowns should be seen as a last resort because of the massive harms that they do. This report is a helpful review of the evidence showing the devastating consequences of lockdown in terms of missed diagnoses, deferred treatments and the crisis in mental health, especially for children and young people. It makes grim but important reading."

Comment: The report's recommendations:
Reinstate the existing pandemic planning policies from 2019, pending a detailed review of the policies adopted in 2020. Look to countries and states which did things differently. There should be a clear commitment from the Government that we will never again lockdown.
Stop mass testing healthy people. Return to the principles of respiratory disease diagnosis (the requirement of symptoms) that were well researched and accepted before 2020. Manufacturers' guidelines state that these tests are designed to assist the diagnosis of symptomatic patients, not to 'find' disease in otherwise healthy people.
Stop all mask mandates. They are psychologically and potentially physically harmful whilst being clinically unproven to stop disease spread in the community and may themselves be a transmission risk.
Vaccination. Abandon the notion that vaccine certification is desirable and that children should be vaccinated. There is no logical or ethical argument for either.
Devise a public education programme to help redress the severe distortions in beliefs around disease transmission, likelihood of dying and possible treatment options. A messaging style based on a calm presentation of facts is urgently needed.
A full public enquiry into the extent to which severe/fatal COVID-19 is spread in hospitals and care homes. There is stark recent evidence on this from Public Health Scotland 3 and if true for the rest of the UK, there needs to be better segregation of COVID-19 patients and staff within these settings.
More funding and investigation of treatments for COVID-19, instead of only focusing on vaccination as a strategy. Given the high rates of hospital transmission, encourage a drive for more early treatment-at-home using some of the protocols discussed herein.
Divert funds. The not inconsiderable money saved from ceasing testing programmes can be diverted to much needed areas, such as mental health, treatment research and an increase in hospital capacity and staffing. The vast debts accrued during 2020 will also need to be paid off, a fact that seems to be worryingly absent from economic recovery plans.

One British man has died and four more suffered blood clotting after AstraZeneca vaccine

One British man has died and four more have suffered a dangerous blood clotting condition after being given the AstraZeneca vaccine, the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) confirmed on Thursday.

The five men, aged between 19 and 59, suffered from Cerebral Venous Sinus Thrombosis (CVST), although the MHRA said they did not know if it had been directly caused by the vaccine.

The MHRA urged people to continue getting the vaccine, adding that the chance of suffering the condition after a vaccination was currently just one in a million.

The condition is so rare that it is difficult to establish an underlying rate for the population.

Speaking at a press conference on Thursday afternoon, Dr Philip Bryan, MHRA Vaccines Safety Lead, said: “We have had five reports of a unique form of blood clot, Cerebral Venous Sinus Thrombosis, concurrent with low blood platelets. This is similar to some of the cases reported through Europe.

“What we don’t know is whether these have been caused by the vaccines. We are working closely to determine this, because these illnesses do very rarely happen naturally.

Watch: Should we be worried about the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine?

Scroll back up to restore default view.
“We do know that after more than five million this is extremely rare – less than one in a million cases of this even after vaccination.

“Covid disease is associated with significant mortality. Both vaccines are highly affected.

"And there is no proven causal association with what is still an extremely rare medical event.”

The MHRA said the benefit of vaccines “continues to be positive” but they are reviewing the individual cases to see if there is a link with the AstraZeneca jab.

The regulator said it was unclear if the men had underlying health conditions, although the lower age range suggests that they may have been classed as vulnerable to be allowed an early vaccine.

The experts said the cases were not linked to an individual batch.

On Thursday, the European Medicines Agency (EMA) is to rule on whether the AstraZeneca vaccine is responsible for several cases of blood clotting.

Several countries, including France, Germany, Italy and Sweden have paused their rollouts of the Oxford jab.
