JohnCasey must really want to buy some cheap AZN! Making sure to post some random stock bashing article before going to bed each night - even on bank holiday Sunday - takes some dedication to the cause! Keep up the good work! Expect all to go quiet a few days into the new tax year.

AstraZeneca kicked out of US factory over mix-up 'that ruined 15m vaccine doses'

AstraZeneca has been kicked out of a production plant in Baltimore after a mix-up is thought to have contaminated 15 million doses of a coronavirus vaccine produced by Johnson & Johnson.

The Oxford/AstraZeneca jab has yet to obtain approval from the US Food and Drug Administration, but production of the vaccine has started in anticipation of a green light.

It was being produced by a sub-contractor at a plant operated by Emergent BioSolutions in Baltimore.

The plant was also manufacturing Johnson & Johnson's vaccines and workers at the factory mistakenly mixed the ingredients.

As a result 15 million doses of the vaccine produced by Johnson & Johnson, which has been given FDA approval, had to be destroyed.

Johnson & Johnson will now assume full responsibility for the production of its vaccine at the plant.

The pharmaceutical giant, which has promised to deliver 100 million doses of its single-shot vaccine to the US by the end of May, said it will deploy additional staff at the Baltimore plant.

AstraZeneca's vaccine will be produced elsewhere in the United States, the US Department of Health and Human Services said. The location has not been disclosed.

"AstraZeneca and the US Government continue to work closely together to support agreed-upon plans for the development, production and full delivery of the vaccine," the company said.

The American decision is a fresh blow for the Anglo-Swedish company after Germany suspended the use of the AstraZeneca vaccine for the under-60s last week because of concerns over reported blood clots

AZ are feeling the heat largely because of their own making. Fancy taking an airplane to Australia at Christmas when you have to quarantine for two weeks. And, making matters worse he's still there.

Why did the board let him do this? How can you run a company in Europe when you work from Australia. No doubt he is a super human who doesn't require sleep.

Quite frankly this is an embarrassment and he should resign.

Seven people have died from unusual blood clots after getting the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine in the UK, the medicines regulator has confirmed to the BBC.

In total, 30 people out of 18 million vaccinated by 24 March had these clots.

It is still not clear if they are just a coincidence or a genuine side effect of the vaccine.

Monty.

Not sure if you were replying to RiskonRicky or me.

If me, no quite serious. If Covid is not stopped by vaccines then the consequences for big pharma is serious. It is elderly sick people that make the profits for big pharma, if they all die of Covid, big pharma has a problem.

Let the vaccine nonsense continue. The morons will soon come around to see sense. Pfizer clot rates are no different. Lots of politics driving this with lobbying from the COVID profit makers. Health establishments will still want to buy AZN drugs over the long term because cost benefits are not affected. An opportunity to build holdings at fair pricing. I think the AZN success and close links with universities demonstrates competitive advantage that only a handful of world-wide companies have.

Brief summary from BBC

"(Germany) has reported 31 cerebral venous sinus thromboses and nine deaths out of 2.7 million people vaccinated there.

However, the most recent UK data reported far fewer clots, just five, despite vaccinating far more people - 11 million.

The European Medicines Agency, which has assessed data from around the world, estimates there is around a one in 100,000 risk of a CVST in people under the age of 60 who have been given the AstraZeneca vaccine.

The organisation's head of safety monitoring, Dr Peter Arlett, said that was "more than we would expect to see".

However, it is uncertain what the background rate of these blood clots in the brain truly is. Estimates vary from around two cases per million people every year to nearly 16 in every million in normal times and coronavirus itself may be causing them too."

It goes on to say that the Germany outcome could be a result of most of those vaccinated being under 60 (because they thought it was useless for the over 60s...), and as they were mostly female, the number could be higher due to the effects of taking the pill.

Monty.

By stopping people from dying from Covid you allow them to get sick, in due course, from other diseases like cancer, parkinsons, alzheimers etc.
AZN can make its money from the sale of drugs for these other diseases.

There is no benefit to a drugs manufacturer in its customers dying, they cease to need drugs once dead....

AZN is protecting its customer base by providing the vaccine FOC.

Concern is it also undermines confidence in other Covid-19 vaccines
leading to lower uptake rates and potentially allowing an open door to future mutations. I've got a bad feeling about this.

This is no longer about altruism and humanity. For AZ they are now stuck in the middle of a combination of Politics, Not invented here syndrome and pure commercialism. Even haloed scientists are now playing games. AZ need a good PR expert (unfortunately) or keep their heads down until it blows over.

Blood clots in recipients of the Oxford/AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine are just as rare as in the wider population, a study published in the medical journal The Lancet has found.

Researchers at Aarhus University Hospital in Denmark analysed medical records going back several years from almost 4m people in the country aged 18 to 64 to establish the usual rate of blood clots.

Based on those findings, they estimated that there would have been 91 cases per week among the roughly 5m people in the European Economic Area who had received the vaccine before March 10.

In fact, fewer — not more — blood clots occurred in jab recipients. Only 30 such cases were reported across the bloc over the same period, according to the European Medicines Agency.
