What have the markets seen in the URI update to upset them?

"The decrease in net income margin primarily reflects the impact of the Ahern Rentals acquisition on both rental and used equipment gross margins, and higher interest expense,"
"Interest expense increased $56 million, or 59.6%, primarily due to increased average debt related to the funding of the Ahern Rentals acquisition, and higher variable debt interest rates"

Return on invested capital (ROIC)9 increased 220 basis points year-over-year, and 40 basis points sequentially, to a record 13.1% for the 12 months ended March 31, 2023. The year-over-year and sequential improvements primarily reflect increased after-tax operating income.

My apologies. I meant the current US results not AHT.

Your faith in Mr P is touching.

I was looking at a chart a couple of days ago showing US government debt from 1970 to date. One has to think at what point does it all come to an end and what will cause it to do so.

Good day disc0

It just about managed to cross on Monday and made a half-hearted attempt on Tuesday to move up but lack of support resulted in a cross back down. Today following a drop on opening it has returned to yesterdays close.

The market is in 'wait and see mode' until company results are declared.

Good day fenners

There are several types of moving averages:

Simple.
Weighted.
Exponential.
Double Exponential.

The exponential gives more weight to the more recent days whether they be low volume swing days or not but their influence reduces faster than with the simple moving average.

Depending on your method of trading you may opt for the exponential it's a matter of choice.

The SMA 200 day average is used as a key indicator for assessing longer term prospects.

Hi bracke
looking at the chart you supplied - that's using the Simple moving average ?
Why not the weighted moving average ?
I would have thought that carries more .... weight ..as its not going to be skewed by low volume swing days ?

"Ps think you knew your post will re-start the usual debate, you little tinker :)"

Absolutely not!!! We've debated the issue to a standstill. I have no wish to resurrect it.

I hesitated before posting the link because of the past debate but thought it was interesting enough to do so.

The point made was outside of EPS - like how are the businesses doing ?
More sales ?
More profit ?
More cash generated ?
Less debt?
Less interest cost and less to come in the future?

Nope none of the above
merely borrowing a fortune to buy shares to technically adjust EPS and blow the consequences.

Good day Mr bInteresting point of view and wouldn't disagree with what he says.....BUT how about the beneficial impact on earnings (eps)?, and subsequent increase in share price at like for like ratings, he seems not to have mentioned that. For the four companies their eps ($) were as follows, which if he says the businesses had "stagnated" is not correct from an eps perspective (well apart from Boeing and I guess the impact of Covid):MCD 2016 5.58, 2018 7.98, 2022 8.42CAT 2016 0.12, 2018 10.4, 2022 12.6BA2016 7.75, 2018 18.1, 2022 8.29MMM2016 8.36, 2018 9.11, 2022 10.2

Given previous discussions on share buybacks I thought this an interesting article.

NO I do not want to open the buyback discussion again and NO I am not suggesting AHT are doing the same. It's purely for interest and shows the manner Directors fill their own pockets at the expense of their shareholders who fail to sell in time.
