About a decade plus ago the guy who ran our local garage had a haphazard pile of computer gear littering his office. He explained he was mining Bitcoin. I was aware of Bitcoin, but didn't see it as anything more than a pointless/faddish thing. Assuming it went well for him he must've made an absolute fortune (presumably). I can think of many instances where I've been a little too dismissive of such opportunities!

Soul - I have a fairly large crypto portfolio. My take is the market is growing and it's going to be worth holding as the usefulness of cryptos as investment is discovered by the masses. I think bitcoin will continue to surprise to the upside as naysayers and short term speculators continue to kick themselves for jumping off way too early.

I don't really see an end game for Bitcoin, to me it just leans on the sensationalism around the world and this "People power" movement that seems to be infiltrating everything. Ultimately, for it to succeed it will need to replace currency, my view is this will never happen as currency is controlled by an even higher minority than Bitcoin (for all the bluster, there is some crazy stat that something like 95% of Bitcoin is owned by 1% of accounts). We all see how gold is controlled by those who need it low and I see it all as the same thing in reality. That said, it is fashionable, and in the same way the naked trader told you to keep your eye on your partners shopping bags back then, there is money to be made by keeping your eye on it. When everything crashed early last year, as well as topping up on most stocks in my portfolio I took the opportunity to buy some Bitcoin in the High $5,000's purely on the basis that it had also dipped. Admittedly I sold in the mid $20,000's but still hold a small amount along with some other speculative coins (all very low investment). Can't stare a gift horse in the mouth!

If you were a small investor with money in bitcoin now would you be happy to let it run or buy something tangible like gold and silver. I know what I would be doing.

That's the key point for me is it gives another years ISA allowance, and some more time, to move shares into Tax free wrappers before it goes ex div.

Soul - Elon Musk and a dozen or so billionaires are buying bitcoin as a hedge agains the fiat currencies which are now losing value by about 12-15% a year. I can see Bitcoin going to $100k this year and many cryptos will outperform that by a long way in percentage terms.

So, no divi until after 21 April 2021 at the earliest assuming court dates stand. Wont stop the deal being finalised in advance of 21 April 2021, but divi could be distributed in May. 7 or 8 weeks to go. We should have a substantial war chest built up by then.

if the hoops being jumped through clears the regulatory requirements then it may well be that mdv and ks decide to 'reap rewards' for their 15 years of effort whilst also taking aau on to its next stage of development via the jv.

the £7.48m distributable reserves generated by the accounting wizardy could be afforded in reality by the bumper profits being generated with current pm prices.

perhaps all wishful thinking on my part, but why not?

No, they buy on market. I believe they are doing this to support the share price rather than employees specifically! Doing so allows employees to get the 'correct' price anyway.I also believe cash in the company may be allocated to the one off or future dividends:-D

presumably aau could distribute the £7.48m in addition to the 50% from jv proceeds?
the wording may suggest intention to do so.

2. i hope any buyback will not be on a compulsory basis from holders (eg. as % of individual holding, either from holders chosen on a lottery basis or applied equally across all holders).
