No. One GBP is worth 1.35 USD because that is how much the US government will underwrite one GBP for. One BTC is worth $36k if someone is prepared to pay that amount for it or $0 if nobody is willing to pay anything for it.

You should try and rid yourself of the idea that something is worth anything more than what an economic agent is willing to exchange it for. Why is one BTC worth 35k? Because someone is willing to pay that much for it. Why is an ounce of gold worth 1800 usd? Because that is what someone is willing to give up for it. Why is one GBP worth 1.35 USD? You get the picture.

I find the Bitcoin thing fascinating, vast amounts of electricity being consumed in order to 'create' something that only exist as a blip in a computer memory, which for reasons that escape me, are traded at $36,000+.
