QP, who cares? The asians will be hoovering up all the met coal they can get their hands on until it's all gone. They need it to make steel. Case closed in my view. Sorry mate but that's the truth. If you can name one met coal substitute that will provide the same energy output for the energy input, I'm all ears.

Plenty of lip service will be paid to "the environment", but nothing gets in the way of business.

"China, the King of Coal, is getting Gassy" - Bloomberg today.

India and now China. Both hastening rush away from coal to ease air pollution. Ahead of schedule.

Clean and Green is the way forward.

FPL closing down a third coal burner

"This is the third coal power plant FPL is phasing out in two years while we continue to invest in major advances in solar and natural gas energy centers. We are proving that it's possible to be clean and low-cost," said Silagy."

I'll post the links later about Florida Power and Light.

Hard on the heels of Enel and South Korea over just the last few days, seems that coal burner closures are very much in focus. Very negative news for the sector.

CLEAN AND LOW-COST.

That's the way forward and that is why coal is on the way out.

PS.. Big trouble at commodities trader Noble Group which suffered BIG Q1 losses of some $130m on buy/sell contracts on coal. I'll post links later.

South Korea continues to build new coal plants, with 20 more to be completed by 2029. The government is closing ten older plants by 2025 in a bid to reduce emissions, but the new plants will still have far higher capacities than those closed.

This is the ONLY TRUTH which certain posters don't want you to remember and know.

In 2011 , share price 380p and today 115p.

But these crook posters want you to believe that this is all wonderful. They just want to make up for their enormous losses by posting fake news.

Beware. THE FIGURES SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES AND DO NOT LIE.- UNLIKE CERTAIN POSTERS.

@bountyhunter - entirely accurate IMO. What matters is the price you pay. I was fortunate enough to buy in a lot lower, when "coal is dead, it's going bust" etc was everywhere. It's been one of my best performers, particularly with the ongoing dividend, & even after shedding a few on the way up.

Takes two to make a market of course.

But he has been correct in the past!!
That said, his motivation is merely point scoring.....he needs it to feel better about himself.

Why are you bothering QP? If you are not short surely you are not just being benevolent? I just don't see the point in so many posts on a single share unless you have a financial interest?
If you have been hit badly here I kind of understand, but wouldn't you be better off moving on and buying Tesla posting on Tesla boards if you truly believe in what you are saying?
For transparency I have an interest here and have lost some value in the past but with directors buying, the current high yield set to increase and things looking up for coal prices at least short to medium term this seems like a worthwhile buy/hold right now.

The article is headed "Coal plants in Korea face complete shut-down".

I am sure you can find it for yourselves but I'll post the links tomorrow

In just a few days, Enel and now the whole of South Korea plan to close ALL COAL BURNING generating plant.

A few weeks ago, all coal-burners closed down in Beijing area.

All hard facts. But many find the truth hard to accept.

Just gets worse and worse.

Bad bad news about Enel today closing their worldwide fleet of coal burning power generators.

Some further very negative sectoral news from South Korea also.

Will post full details and links tomorrow.

The prospects for coal are getting ever bleaker.

ps beware the rampers . When the share is 400p they will say it's wonderful. When you have lost 75% of your capital, they will try to convince you to buy more to support their losses.
Do your own research and weigh up the prospects of coal for yourself which are incredibly weak and bleak.

WannaCry affects investor threads.
That's what these posters are like in this thread.
Like ransomwares, they try to persuade you with 1000's of reasons
to affect your judgement against your investment.
If you are naive and fall into the trap and press the SELL button then you have been robbed by these crooks who pose in here supposingly looking after your own interest.
Beware, they will benefit big time as every penny that drops they make money at your expense.

Coal will be with humankind to the end of time.
It's cheap,it's economical to produce/mine, big business, nations rely on it for their economy, millions jobs have been created and are created every minute globally.
Coal can not be substituted with any other energy to power the furnaces, powerstations, use for heating etc.

Do your own research, do not listen to these clowns.

If you are not worried about dividends in the short term, one coal investment that does stand out is PDZ. This is coal for steel makers, a much different animal. I am invested, no ramp intended, but please take a good look and do a bit of research.

Yes this share looks like it will face strong headwinds again as coal prices slump and the Green movement further kills the prospects for coal.

Enel announcing the closure of its worlwide fleet of coal burners is a strong indicator of prospects for coal which are extremely negative and worrying.

I'll post a lot more soon as to why I think this share may well fall back to 50p again.

The sector is looking extremely precarious as coal prices slump again and ENEL today announces that it is shutting down its worldwide fleet of coal generating stations.
