It looks like it has been shorted to some degree in the last few weeks. There have been job losses in the Australian coal sector recently as some production is scaled back. That can't be helping sentiment. But over the next 10 years, APF should make a shed load from the Kestrel royalty. Can they use the money effectively to build a broad based royalty portfolio? So far they haven't.

Buy APF sub £1 and stick it in your SIPP for 5 years+ and you should get a decent return.

There is a lot more 'merde' to hit the fan in the nat resources sector before recovery gains a toe hold.

So it's one to avoid for the short-term.

China has lowered its growth rate estimates (though still at a rate the UK would love to have) and gold has slumped.

It's tight on the dividend cover too.

To be balanced though in this environment there are likely to be some bargain royalties around.

I agree - it has been quiet. I have been away - why the big fall....just sentiment/prices of commodities or something else?

Page 19, Markets Section today's FT.

A sign of the times.

Article about coal billionaire Nathan Tinkler who disposes of coal assets to pay creditors.

" The deal is one of the earliest signs of distressed sales of Australian mining assets as growth slows in China.........especially for coal and iron".

Full article makes interesting reading

Potentially a nice time to buy coal assets but negative in my view for valuations of existing coal related holdings on a mark-to market basis.

ALL IMO. DYOR.

Rio Tinto signs Pilbara Indigenous land access deal

Rio Tinto has signed an agreement with the Yindjibarndi Aboriginal Corporation for access to 13,000 square kilometres of land in the Pilbara.

Yindjibarndi says the agreement encompasses all the significant Indigenous sites between Karratha and Tom Price.

It clears the way for Rio to use the land to develop mine and transport projects.

Yindjibarndi's chief executive, Michael Woodley, says in return, his people will benefit from compensation, training, job and business opportunities.

"I can't go into details in terms of what is stated from a compensation figure but I can say that there's a substantial amount of funds available and there'll be available for the next 50 to 100 years or for however long Rio Tinto want to operate on our country for," he said.

"The other important aspect is to be a part of the operation, both from a training and employment and a commercial point of view."

Mr Woodley says the land use agreement encompasses all the significant Indigenous sites in the region.

"There will be this ongoing dialogue about the activities that Rio have currently and are planning to do in the future when it comes to impact on our country and heritage issues," he said.

"Also, there will be involvement in opportunities around compensation, opportunities around employment and training and also opportunities around the business development."

Meanwhile, the Wirlu-Murra Yindjibarndi Aboriginal Corporation says a clear majority of native title members did not authorise proceeding with the agreement.

The breakaway group was formed after a falling out from a land use deal with Fortescue Metals Group.

Earlier this year, the Federal Court of Australia ruled the Yindjibarndi Aboriginal Corporation is the only group legally permitted to represent the Yindjibarndi people, overruling the powers of Wirlu-Murra.

However, Wirlu-Murra said in a statement, it was concerned over a lack of information as to the details of the agreement and is disappointed Rio Tinto did not involve all the Yindjibarndi people in its negotiations.

Rio declined to respond.

The pattern points upward.
From June shoots up to 340p.
See chart above for the last 3 years the same pattern.

Good for income pension funds, as the yield is very good.

good price, steady.
Results will be very much better than previous quarter.
The weather affected the production of coal in Australia but things have improved and more royalties are paying out this time.

Dividend of 5.75p paid out in July.

Total dividend paid out this year 4.45+5.75= 10.2p
With the current price of 230p paying out 10.2p dividend,
increasing every year by 7%-8% its very good return.

There are companies whose yield is very low and they are in the FTSE.

Good source of income!

I believe they were talking about production circa 2018, but it could go in several directions. It might combine with a similar size mothballed nickel project a little to the north. Teck could take it over, or they could go it alone.

Only time tabled so far to Pre feaso in 2013 qtr.3.

However should be able to advance when mkt. requires the product, cashed up & well backed, by Teck.
