20/10/2014 14:32 | Linc Energy spuds first well in Arckaringa basin Written by AOG Staff Monday, 13 October 2014 10:45 Linc Energy spudded the first of its three well drilling program in the Arckaringa basin near Cooper Pedy in South Australia. The exploration program is focused on three deeper sections of the organic rich, highly prospective Boorthanna trough, and will intersect targets within the Stuart Range, Boorthanna and pre-Permian formations. To date no previous drilling has intersected the formations at depth and the results of these wells will be critical to understanding the basin in detail. Linc Energy holds more than 65,000sq km within the Arckaringa basin across seven petroleum exploration licenses (PELs) and one application (PELA). Samples and core recovered during drilling activity will be sent for analysis including: thermal maturity, source rock, logging of all core holes, and open hole well testing. Linc Energy says that the assessment of the data collected in the first phase of drilling will determine the next development steps. Given these wells are designed to better understand the basin in the first instance, Linc Energy will not attempt to stimulate or flow test these wells in this initial program. Each of these three wells will be completed in two sections with an initial “pre collar” section drilled and “cased off” prior to a larger rig continuing to target depth and completion. The purpose of drilling the wells in two sections is to ensure the integrity of the region’s sub- surface water systems as a priority. The method of completing the program in two distinct consecutive stages was selected as it is considered best practice and provides the most cost effective solution for shareholders. | whippet1 | |
