You want a better name for adbrn?Well how about a word, instead of unpronounceable jumble of letters? How about Aberdeen? And please stop moaning about others discussing things on discussion boards. The share price is a function of many factors, one of which is confidence in the directors to make decent decisions. That confidence has been knocked a little over this name nonsense. And confidence the directors won't be taken for an expensive ride by 'image consultants' and the like.

Mooning? I did that once in Uppingham at the Falcon Hotel. I'm not proud about it but I had consumed large amounts of alcohol. spud

RyeSloan > you are SpotOn Bird dealt with the issue at hand. So far I have never seen anyone come up with a better name or solution instead of just mooning about the name change quite comical actually but I do agree the near 14 % decline in the share price is not encouraging however hopefully the far east shall be adding & bringing in good revenue the oncoming years.

The use of the Standard Life brand was snookered as soon as they sold the life assurance arm with that name to Phoenix. Bird at least recognised that and took action. The company was operating with a number of brands that made little sense to even the company no matter the public who had no idea who was behind the name Standard Life anymore. That had to change.

eh? I thought i'd already explained i wasn't talking about the female board members.? wtf?

My personal view was that the standard life brand was very well known and had a good reputation, and should have been kept. It's change for change's sake, someone making out they're doing something useful when they are being taken for an expensive ride by 'image consultants' and the like, generating work at 4k per day per bum on seat.

(Just to keep you happy, it could be male bums on seats, or female bums on seats, or indeed, they bums on seats).

My point was that your comment about the 'old men' missed the fact that the board has substantial female representation.Anyway what do you think they should have done? Muddled on with 6 different brands or whatever than no one understood? Kept using a brand that was essentially under the control of Phoenix? How would any of that helped?

Only the men? Abrdn board has 6 women on it as well does it not?

-------------------------------

Rye, I suppose it does, but what's your point?

I was talking about old men's actions.

Well, it's good to hear that at least one person supports the madness of adbrn (thanks for pointing out the spelling mistake of the new name btw, damn, just done it again).

Only the men? Abrdn board has 6 women on it as well does it not?People need to get over the spelling of the name. The brands had become totally confused, particularly the use of the name Standard Life. So a single unified brand was essential. Personally I'd have liked something totally fresh but the key issue has been addressed at least.

There's nothing more pathetic when old men like abbdn directors, make decisions they think will be seen as 'trendy' or 'cool' by youth.

arbdn is a perfect example. It's just so obviously effin unintelligently cryptic tat, which has probably cost abdrn tens of mill overall. A double whammy with a brilliant brand like standard life getting dumped.

Chinese,
You are astute insofar as my shares were zero cost.
I use that term pointedly as I swapped my supposed part-ownership of a Mutual company for pieces of paper that have offered, so far, an ever smaller piece of a promise.

Tornado, I hold onto mine out of respect for my dad who worked for Standard Life for many years when it had a respected name.

abrdn

This is like an extended airport code. 🤣

The main issues with Abrdn is the lack of clear revenue sustainability and direction over the next years. They have billions in the bank which can help to cover the dividend payments, but medium term this will not change the fortunes here. Couple that with no news between operational updates and you have a share price out of favour. I have made reasonable returns from divi and still in profit from capital invested , but really not sure if long term they are able to grow their EPS and revenues ! They appear as a stagnant prospect currently. Why I have maintained my investment is hard to explain, but so far I’m still invested

Chinese,
The yield is high.
But, if you were to sink £1000 into this share and reap £60 after a year that would be fine if you still also had the £1000 value.
What if that value had dropped to, say, £890?
Bet Bird’s salary will not be cut by 11%
Ok, his bonus may be forfeit - but THAT I wouldn’t bet on.

The concept is a good one...move the disparate brands onto a single brand. There was mass confusion over the sharing of the Standard Life name as well as the different brands under SLA (1875, ASC, ASI etc). The main issue has been the name chosen as I actually like the look of the new brand and the material.
