06/3/2022 13:37 | jubberjim, If you do want to put your money into equities then invest modest amounts first. After a short time you should then have a better understanding what makes shares move in price without losing your house and family ! No it didn't happen to me ! | chinese investor
06/3/2022 13:06 | Jim. CI is correct. You don't know me from Adam. I could be an absolute a. hole with £1k invested making out I had millions. All I would say is drip buying evens out the price swings. spud | spud
06/3/2022 11:59 | jubberjim, Consult an Independent Financial Professional. Don't seek advice from a poxy bulletin board... ...and if you are having sleepless nights because you are a couple of per cent down then buying shares may not be for you. | chinese investor
06/3/2022 11:43 | jubberjim: just a correction to your post. You said: "I fully expect there to be a sell off over the next few weeks" You obviously must know the FTSE finished below 7000 and thus we're already back to 2008 (eg 14 years ago) or start of covid-19 pandemic We're already in a sell-off (not sure how far into it, but we're definitely in a sell-off) | netcurtains
06/3/2022 11:38 | Spud From what I can gather your investment portfolio is a damn sight bigger than mine But bearing that in mind say you funds available and have invested approximately half of your cash what do you consider as a percentage the right amount to drip at any one time I hold 10 shares with an average investment in each of some 25,000 pounds Some under water but paying good dividends others holding their own I have 250,000 available to invest what is suitable amount to invest in any particular share at any one time These are unprecedented times and while I fully expect there to be a sell off over the next few weeks would like to know your thoughts Thanks | jubberjim
06/3/2022 00:59 | CWA1 Chinese Investor Many thanks for replies too busy putting the world to rights on Aviva only just picked it up Happy to have sold out of Barclays not so happy to have ploughed it all back into Lloyds You live and learn but seems I never do wish I d kept it in cash Just have to run with it now as well out of range We will all need luck over next few weeks be safe | jubberjim
04/3/2022 20:58 | if today you were a seller (or shorter) would you feel gutted if ABDN recovered loads on Monday or would you feel pleased for the longs that remained in ABDN? Generally speaking, if a company goes up after I sell I feel doubly gutted, its like losing twice. That is why sometimes (not always) it can be best to do nothing. | netcurtains
04/3/2022 20:27 | This Market slide isn't stock specific so drip buying is the sensible thing to do. spud | spud
04/3/2022 19:57 | Another day - another ABDN buy 10p less than the day before :-/ I'm steeling myself to buy again at 169p on Monday FFS! | value hound
04/3/2022 19:09 | mercedes: Yes... I cant see a quick end to this unless (miracle) a ceasefire occurs this weekend.. So I expect FTSE100 to be lower by end of year - if war goes on that long. Eg - NO WHEAT could equal NO BREAD. Eg - NO NICKEL (and other metals) equals SHUT DOWN OF BIG CHUNKS OF INDUSTRY Why invest now when it could be worse next week and worse the week after etc etc? | netcurtains
04/3/2022 17:50 | Net You may have a very long wait then!! | mercedes
04/3/2022 15:09 | gaygay3: I'm going to buy more, probably not at a specific price, but simply when the war stops. | netcurtains
04/3/2022 15:03 | I will buy more when we are down to about 1.30p losing over 4% daily not got long to wait | gaygay3
04/3/2022 14:33 | At least bought today lower than Stephen Bird paid couple of days ago at 199.15p. Always good when directors buy. | montyhedge
04/3/2022 14:25 | Yes of course rebound, buy when they're scared, sell when they greedy. 8% yield while you're waiting that's ok. | montyhedge
04/3/2022 12:56 | No good buying the 8% yield when your capital keep going down yes the share price will rebound but might take to years to get your capital back | gaygay3
04/3/2022 12:01 | Buy for yield and price will rebound at some point. | coxsmn
04/3/2022 11:57 | That's probably as good a Monty understatement as I've heard yet! spud | spud
04/3/2022 11:40 | P.e 3.91 yield 8%. Looks good value. | montyhedge
04/3/2022 09:13 | All bear markets end eventually. Watch for the capitulation when the last holdout sells. Preserve your capital and be patient. Then, ease into a small position using a big global investment trust. Nobody can accurately time the market so dip your toe in carefully and if your position goes rapidly north on high volume, add on the dips. Big ITs employ the best portfolio managers in the business, you can use their skills to your advantage. Using global investment trusts avoids single company risk, which is rapidly destroying capital here. | tartshagger
04/3/2022 09:07 | We are in stock market crash senario. Will match covid-19. Too late for me to swap into cash. will sit it out. | netcurtains
04/3/2022 08:53 | most shares are going down fast because of the situation in Russia and Ukraine I will be keeping my shares looks like the market is going to crash which I hope it doesn’t | gaygay3
04/3/2022 08:42 | There is no faster way to destroy trading capital than to "average down". Warren Buffet once said "the market can be wrong for longer than you can remain solvent"Sticking with a loosing position far below any sensible stop loss is foolish. People do it because they are emotionally attached to capital already lost. Whilst I admire directors who have some skin in the game, they are doing it to show support for their institutional investors. ABDN is tanking on huge volume, all I read here is people "topping up" and other idiocy. Sell. | tartshagger
04/3/2022 08:08 | If you do a combination of best DIV, best PE Ratio, good Profits and best NAV then ABRDN is not only best in FTSE its the best in AIM too! LOL | netcurtains |
