Of course they are overpaying, ii was going to be a IPO no idea what price, suddenly someone comes along with cash, made an offer they bite his arm off to take it. We will never know what price they were going to IPO at.

@CIAll recent director buys are now out of the money. The market does not like the II purchase, the directors are desperate for a deal and are clearly overpaying. The chart shows an established downtrend that is breaking down. Two quid to 23p, when an American activist investor like Elliot will buy in and break ABDN up. The way to make money at this game is don't invest in losers

I have got an initial buy level at 207 for my son's

Hargreaves performance underlines the pertinent facts that not so many trades are being done a lot of this is down to how Hargreaves have let their previous high standards slip with the annexing of tools that amateur investors such as myself found very useful

Caution is to the fore at the moment and I will not be looking to over extend myself
This can only be bad for interactive brokers and their ilk

I hope Abdn are not having too many regrets

gaygay3: No.

Abrdn have PE 3.
HL have PE of over 20 (and that is after its fall).

Abrdn have NAV miles bigger than its market cap.
HL have NAV miles smaller than its market cap.

Abrdn cant really go a lot cheaper - it will soon be so cheap you will get paid to have shares in it (eg a NETNET).

ABDN is halfway to becoming a netnet stock - which is amazing for a FTSE1000 company.
PE 3.66

NAV is 6810
Mrk Cap is 5094

Half year profits up lots.

I am not presently holding but previously bought in at 230 level when it touched at around 226 subsequently sold at 252 but while Aviva has held its own this has just wallowed as I stated I thought the acquisition of II to be a tad overpriced but have latterly changed my mind but not enough to go back in

I have watched this come off from 316 back in the day but as I said looks to be unloved and unwanted at this current time so will sit and watch

Have a list of 30 or so stocks reporting between now and St Patrick's Day so they are keeping me occupied

Lloyds BT.A LGEN and DLG are my core holdings plus gold shares the rest is cash which I will eke out as and when I feel the tide has turned or my levels are reached

But due to ongoing uncertainty in Ukraine and my feeling that the situation with Taiwan could come to the fore happy to sit and wait

I am resisting the urge still to buy this but having read an article in the Sunday Times as to the charges comparison between II and Hargreaves Lansdown have started to take a look as the prospective purchase compares very favourably with said behemoth

But this is still struggling to break up through the waves

Will look seriously if we get sustained move above 250 but until then while others dlg lgen and even Aviva are bobbing along on the incoming tide this remains anchored to the bottom
I await

I look at Hargreaves an extremely nervous market a dearth of investors willing to buy and sell in a static market

I don t pretend to know what is happening but I cannot see this situation improving in near future

But as you will know I am not your average investor

In fact I fall some way short but is my view

The truth will out

The II purchase is extremely positive and adds another revenue layer to the Company.

It’s been bought without issuance of additional share dilution or borrowings.

I disagree, i believe the ii purchase is an excellent decision. It's a growing area, cash machine business and a hedge against market volatility.

Unfortunately this has now taken over from Aviva and latterly Lloyds as the unloved and unwanted stock of he moment
Paying a decent dividend but is out of favour not helped by this expenditure of 1.5 billion on a share dealing service
I ve stated that I envisage the level of trades by investors to decline due to moribund markets this can only hurt the bottom line the same reason I wouldn t invest in Hargreaves Landsdown
Direct line and legal and general are my two mainstays and is unlikely to change in near future

Well looking forward to Monday as today is going to be very fraught sitting on hands
For now
Wishing all the best to everyone

This stock has become Holders' Heartbreak Hotel! - But that which drops SO fast may retrace quickly - Who knows? If Putin's plan was/is to Divide, Strangulate & Emasculate 'The West' - He must be sleeping easier in that big old bad bed of his? tonight. As montyhedge has dryly observed, Putin's laughing all the way to the Bank (that financed Brexit, amongst other self-inflicted atrocities that he helped others visit upon themselves). Wake up Brits! You've been gamed, and it's ongaming, I mean ongoing! Effective autocracy beats ineffective democracy nearly every time.
