29/10/2024 23:41 | But the 14.6p when received is realised whereas the 35p drop could easily reverse and is only realised if you sell now. | pj84
29/10/2024 12:08 | Yes but even if it's not cut, the chunky 14.6p annual dividend has suddenly paled into insignificance after that weekly 35p drop in shareprice ... | mister md
29/10/2024 12:08 | Fingers crossed the bottom is going in today.Nice reversal so far. | parob
29/10/2024 11:38 | Even if they did cut the divi, it would still probably a reasonable yield at this price. | orchestralis
29/10/2024 11:27 | Hopefully the new CEO will streamline ABDN and get rid of some of the under performing assets. This is way undervalued and as I've mentioned is trading at a huge discount to NAV. Also being so heavily shorted (5.8% disclosed, probably higher if shorters individually less than half a percent are included which I'm guessing will be many) means closing could lead to a strong rally. Look at the charts and associated opening/closing shorts. It's a repetitive trend which hopefully will be favourable in the not too distant future. | thebutler
29/10/2024 11:06 | I'm of that persuasion bbd2. I perhaps bought yesterday at 1:15pm and at a rate of £1.3759 a tad early but I thought things would start to rise today. I can wait a further day for the rise. CWA1: I don't envy the job you have, will not make it harder, and appreciate the effort you expend. 👍 | mcunliffe1
29/10/2024 10:18 | I guess the question is will they look to close their shorts ahead of the budget or let them run. With so many leaks there could be a strong argument that the damage has already been done and it’s in the price now. | bbd2
29/10/2024 10:03 | MCunliffe1 I agree it's a fine line as to what should and should not get discussed and you're never going to please all the people all the time...BUT these are company specific boards here and once you say it's OK to widen the remit to other stocks then someone else pushes it out further and starts to discuss the budget, then it's politics, then it's Brexit again and before you know it you're discussing horse racing tips-something the vast majority have told me repeatedly they don't want. So I'd rather keep individual boards REASONABLY close to their intended purposes, with a bit of leeway outside of "office hours". FWIW the Phoenix thread now seems to be a free for all with poor old PHNX rarely getting a look in. Perhaps you could use that one for more general chat? Or even set up a dedicated thread yourself to "share suggestions, or similar? I'd be extremely happy with you linking to it on here and, indeed, would probably use it myself. Anyway, I'm perfectly happy to be politely disagreed with :-) And I appreciate your agreement not to discuss wider shaes on here, thanks. | cwa1
29/10/2024 09:54 | It's still possible to sell out of this sinking ship ! | my retirement fund
29/10/2024 09:49 | A fair few shorts open on Abdn and a couple on Phnx. | bbd2
29/10/2024 09:41 | Providing the stone and the feather are in identical boxes thus equally any friction/wind issues they WILL hit the ground at the same time. The share price falls seem to follow the same pattern these past 7-8 trading days. Open higher but bleed away as the day progresses. I'm hoping the lethargy evaporates post budget. | mcunliffe1
29/10/2024 09:27 | Fenners. I bet neither of them drop as quick as the FTSE. LOL | p0pper
29/10/2024 09:23 | netcurtains 28 Oct '24 - 15:21 - 3681 of 3696 "Its worth pointing out that Galileo said stones dont drop any faster than any other stuff" Don't know if he really said that - but try dropping a stone and a feather at the same time ... | fenners66
29/10/2024 08:52 | I have to politely disagree with you there CWA1. I'll explain why: in March 2023 I took control of my pension when I moved from Standard Life to Interactive Investor the (then) £199k approx. I had minimal idea where I should place my investments but I knew I didn't want everything in one place and equally, didn't want everything into trust funds etc. I wanted to control my investments. The start point was here - ADVFN - on probably the PHNX thread initially. As I read the posts and picked up on other share suggestions my reading scope increased massively. Odd suggestions would appear and I'd check them out, some appealed and I invested. Today, I hold nine shares in my SIPP, it's valued at £213k and I've had £16k draw-down. I thank the many posters who pointed me towards, ABDN, BATS, DGE, LGEN, PHNX, RECI, RR, SBLK and TFIF. I would never have found RECI, TFIF and SBLK without these boards. Others I have looked at but not invested (at least, not retained 'till now) include AFT, SUPR, SDIP. POLR, ATOM, DEC, GLEN, CHH, NWG and CSN to mention a few. It could be that mr castle has a solid investment that I've yet to find. That's why I asked. I acknowledge your point however and will not discuss the above shares here on your thread beyond the raw mention of their tickers. | mcunliffe1
29/10/2024 08:34 | Morning MCunliffe1 Now, a question for you: What shares are YOU invested in that YOU believe will succeed? To be honest I'd really rather we diddn't discuss mr castle's shares and why he's invested in them on here, thanks. This is for Abrdn discussion primarily, so let's keep it that way. Cheers | cwa1
29/10/2024 08:27 | Hopefully a nice bounce from this support level for starters. | parob
29/10/2024 08:23 | Morning mr castle: I've had a relationship with Standard Life since I was seven years old. My dad worked for the company for many years. My endowments and pension plans (he sold me) were with the S.L. Aberdeen did indeed merge/take-over S.L. and subsequently, Phoenix Group became embroiled with the name Standard Life. abrdn is less well known to me but I recently nearly doubled my holding to about £10,200 that is, unfortunately, worth £9200 approx. at this moment. I have seen this share go up and down many, many times. I'm expecting it to go up after the budget as at least we will all know the extent of the pain or otherwise by that point. Now, a question for you: What shares are YOU invested in that YOU believe will succeed? TIA | mcunliffe1
29/10/2024 07:58 | I think Standard Life was one of them... Wasn't it taken over by Aberdeen? | netcurtains
29/10/2024 00:39 | Geeez - was waiting for that - the last refuge of the desperate loser *the takeover bid* and there it is right there - true to form you never fail to disappoint Look back and check how many shares that have crashed have been taken over BWAHAHAHA | mr bernard castle
28/10/2024 21:19 | 260p - the NAV | thebutler
28/10/2024 20:18 | What price would it need to be to attract a takeover bid? | netcurtains
28/10/2024 20:02 | Evening Mr bernard castle It's fine to disagree as long as you state your arguments clearly and succinctly but, most importantly, without bringing personal comments in to it. So please, let's not say people are stupid or are"divvis" just because you disagree with them. Tell them why you disagree and win your argument that way please. Cheers | cwa1
28/10/2024 19:46 | Divi ? - I think we all know who the divvis are here ... look at yourselves | mr bernard castle |
