19/6/2026 14:26:46 | Key updates (2026)
1. Mitsubishi has invested in the project In February 2026, Mitsubishi Corporation entered an investment agreement with Anglo American to support Woodsmith's continued development. The partnership includes funding for feasibility work and efforts to build demand for the mine's POLY4 fertilizer product.
2. A major feasibility study is underway In May 2026, Fluor Corporation was awarded a contract to carry out feasibility study services for the project. This study is expected to be a critical step toward a future final investment decision (FID).
3. Planning changes are receiving local support Local councillors have backed Anglo American's proposals to remove annual production limits and redesign parts of the mine's ventilation infrastructure. The proposals still require regulatory approval, but the local response has been supportive.
4. Employment levels have largely been maintained Despite the project's slowdown announced in 2024, Anglo American says the workforce of around 1,000 people will be maintained over the next few years. The company has indicated that construction activity could ramp up again from around 2027–2028 if development milestones are met.
What happens next?
The current roadmap appears to be:
Stage Expected timing Feasibility study 2026–2027/28 Final investment decision Around 2028 First production Early 2030s (often cited around 2032) Full-scale output After initial production ramp-up
These dates remain subject to financing, market demand for polyhalite fertilizer, and Anglo American's broader capital allocation decisions.
Bottom line
The project is no longer simply being kept on "care and maintenance." New funding from Mitsubishi, a fresh feasibility study, and planning changes indicate that Anglo American is actively trying to advance Woodsmith toward a full investment decision. However, it remains a long-term project rather than one close to production, with the most important milestone now being the completion of the feasibility study and a likely investment decision around 2028. | skinny

26/9/2025 09:29:49 | Truth is that it is a train line paid for my mugs under the guise of it being a mine. It connects the new South Tees Dev Project to Whitby and a campsite and a fishing lake. Also helps connect an otherwise isolated community
That is my opinion as always | kreature

09/8/2025 08:49:34 | Strange, I seem have misplaced my holding. Only another 7km or 20% of tunnel to go to complete the underground joyride to Teeside ? One station looks near complete at the campsite ? The other station at the fishing lake also probably nearly complete ?
And the final station at Teeside seen here
The transport tunnel for salty rocks exiting here next to Tesco. Well I believe them, hence my massive investment in SXX. | kreature

30/12/2023 03:24:09 | Latest presentation shows the a tunnel passing directly underneath the old RAF base at Danby.
